The Wizard of Oz TV show...
TVLine reports that NBC has revealed character breakdowns for Emerald City, the upcoming TV series based on The Wizard of Oz. It will debut during the 2014-15 season.
Here's a synopsis: Emerald opens with Dorothy, a 20-year-old woman desperate for clues to the identity of her biological mother, breaking into a sinister facility somewhere in the Midwest. When her mission is foiled by security, Dorothy steals a K9 police dog and speeds away… into the path of a tornado. Said twister transports her to a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy — in other words, the Land of Oz in a way never seen before, a realm where wicked witches don't stay dead for long.
Dorothy Gale: A "natural beauty" scarred by her past. She has "patched a life together" even though she "sells herself short". She has "outward insecurity" and a "lack of self-awareness" but will soon find out she's a "savior survivor".
West: A thirty-something "corruptive" and "fearsome force of nature". She's described as a "drugged-out virtuoso" with "self-loathing" who is "compelling" and "unsettling."
North: A character in her 30s or 40s. She's a "Type-A manipulative perfectionist" who has a "big sister" relationship with West.
Henry: The show's male romantic lead. He's "handsome" and "well-built" with a "seemingly open nature that belies a bit of a past."
The Wizard: A forty-something male who is "charismatic" and "politically astute". He is a leader that is "earnest in his beliefs and intentions" but also believes that the "ends justify the means". His showmanship hides a "dangerous" and "deadly" seriousness.
Eamonn: The Wizard's loyal number one confidant. He is a "strong, silent type."
Tip: Fifteen with a secret past. She is "undergoing the discomfort of discovering her sexuality."
Jack: Tip's neighbor and best friend, an "adventurous and energetic teen."
Ojo: A member of the Munja'kin, a primitive and isolated cross-pollinated culture. He is a man in his mid-30s to early 40s, described as "stoic" and "fearsome" and is "unsympathetic" to Dorothy's problems.
Sylvia: A ten year-old who is "odd, feral and haunted".
