Roger Spottiswood to Direct Narco-Sub Film Hyberbaric Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 06.19.2014
It's the second such film in development...
Narco-subs are the new asteroids, White House terrorist attacks and volcanoes. By that I mean we now have two films about the real-world drug-running submarines, as Deadline reports that Roger Spottiswood (Tomorrow Never Dies, Turner and Hooch) is set to direct a film on the topic titled Hyperbaric, about crew of four strangers aboard a sub that is being chased by the US Coast Guard. This will compete with Antoine Fuqua's more high-conceptually titled Narco-Sub, which was recently announced.
Dueling films with the same concept isn't a new thing in Hollywood, whether it's Armageddon vs. Deep Impact, Volcano vs. Dante's Peak, White House Down vs. Olympus Has Fallen or a host of others. Fuqua himself directed Olympus, which trounced Roland Emmerich's White House Down at the box office last year.
No word on a potential release date for either film.
