"Autobots, roll out!"
Box Office Mojo reports that Transformers: Age of Extinction grossed $41.6 million for its opening day (June 27). This includes about an estimated $8.75 million from early Thursday night screenings.
The opening gives the Transformers sequel the single largest opening day for any film release this year. The film is now on track to gross over $100 million for the weekend, which would give it the largest opening weekend for a film release this year.
In addition, the film has grossed approximately $80 million overseas thus far for a worldwide total of $121 million. That number will easily be doubled after this weekend. Each previous live-action Transformers movie has grossed over $300 million domestically and over $700 million worldwide. Transformers: Dark of the Moon had the largest worldwide box office gross of the franchise with $1.12 billion worldwide.
