Variety reports that Paramount have hired Jonathan Lemkin to write G.I. Joe 3, which is set to be released in 2016. This is the second deal Lemkin has made with the studio after Frank Marshall's The Longest Night (based on the GQ story. The film will feature most of the cast of the last film, including Dwayne Johnson and Adrianne Palicki. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce. Jon Chu was originally set to direct but he's no longer attached.
The plot hasn't been revealed but it will revolve around Johnson's character Roadblock. The plan is to start the film in the second quarter of 2016. Paramount views the franchise as a priority after G.I. Joe: Retaliation earned over $370 million worldwide.
Lemkin previously worked with di Bonaventura on Shooter, The Devil's Advocate and Lethal Weapon 4.
