Christian Bale In Talks For The Deep Blue Goodbye

Variety reports that Christian Bale is in talks to play Travis McGee in 20th Century Fox's adaptation of The Deep Blue Goodbye. Bale has agreed to star in the movie and an offer should be made soon. James Mangold will direct with Chernin Entertainment and Amy Robinson with , Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson-Killoran producing for Appian Way.

The book was written by John D. MacDonald in 1964. It's the first of 21 books about McGee, who is a "salvage consultant" who recovers property for a fee and usually gets in trouble fighting criminals and seducing women. Dennis Lehane wrote the script and Scott Frank provided the most recent draft.

Bale, Fox and Chernin previously worked together on Exodus: Gods and Kings, which will be out on December 12.
