ABC President Says Captain America: The Winter Soldier Helped Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 07.16.2014
“We clearly found a little bit of time to find our sea legs.”
Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, ABC President of Entertainment Paul Lee reportedly credited the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in revilitizing the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, which was recently renewed for a second season. Below are some highlights.
Lee on the events from Winter Soldier affecting S.H.I.E.L.D.: "[I was] under strict instructions from Marvel not to release any information [on that topic]."
Lee on how S.H.I.E.L.D. took time to find its sea legs: "It's wonderful to have assets, two on ABC, and, of course, we have the shows that we're producing for Netflix, that really are part of the Marvel universe, and I think it was groundbreaking the way we took stories and we moved them back and forth between theatrical and television. We have no specific plans that I can talk about now, but it's something that I know the Marvel universe think about long and hard. And I know it's something that was very successful. If you think about S.H.I.E.L.D., we clearly found a little bit of time to find our sea legs, but once we did that extraordinary interplay between the two of them, the cross fertilization, it brought a whole load of creativity to our back nine, and that's why the back nine built. And that's why the fans started to love the show. So it's a valuable thing to do."
Lee on the latter half of the first season: "We had such a strong set of stories through that huge finale at the end that that triggered a whole load of storylines that we're working on right now. I have to say that we're loving reading those scripts."
