It's doing well...
Guardians of the Galaxy is continuing to do great daily business at the domestic box office after its record-shattering opening weekend. Per Box Office Mojo, the film grossed $8.8 million at the domestic box office on Wednesday, bringing its US total to $126 million. In addition, the film has grossed $92.5 million overseas for a worldwide box office total of $219 million.
Based on current estimates, the film will likely break $135 million domestically before the start of its second weekend.
In additional good news for Disney and Marvel, SuperHeroHype reports that the film's box office has put Disney at No. 2 in the domestic marketplace as of August 6. The studio will likely reach $1 billion for 2014 later today.
Guardians of the Galaxy will soon be rolled out in more international territories across the rest of this month. The film hits Australia, New Zealand, and Portugal today (August 7), followed by France on August 13, and German on August 28. In light of Warner Bros. blinking in the movie release date game of chicken and moving Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice to March 25 away from Captain America 3 on May 6 in 2016, it looks like now is a good time to be Marvel.
