The Lonely Island Film Is in the Works
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 08.07.2014

THR reports that Universal Pictures is developing a feature film based around the musical trio, The Lonely Island. The group is made up of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone.

Schaffer and Taccone are attached to co-direct the film, which would be "set in the music world." The group is known for its music video sketches on Saturday Night Live. Unfortunately, SNL acts generally have bad luck going from TV to film adaptations, save for perhaps Wayne's World. The last feature based on a Saturday Night Live sketch was 2010's MacGruber, which grossed only $9 million domestically.

Judd Apatow is producing the film alongside Schaffer, Samberg, and Taccone. Erik Baiers is overseeing the production for Universal.
