Off to a good start…
According to Forbes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pulled in $4.6 million from Thursday night showings. For a comparison, last week's Guardians of the Galaxy opened with $11.2 million from Thursday night showings. This led to the film pulling earning $94 million at the US box office.
In theory, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could pull in between $50 and $70 million this weekend if past box office performance is any indication. The Wolverine did $4 million on Thursday viewings, and made $53 million for the weekend. Maleficent did $4 million on Thursday viewings and opened with $69 million.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hasn't been received well by critics, but the feeling is that the PG rating could lead to a large audience of kids going to see the film.
