UPDATED x4: Robin Williams Dead at 63
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 08.12.2014

UPDATE x4: According to TMZ, the Marin County Deputy Coroner says that Robin Williams tried to slit his wrist with a pocket knife prior to hanging himself. The coroner says that he only left "acute superficial cuts." The report also says that Williams used a belt, tied it around his neck and secured it between the closet door and the doorframe. He was found in a seated position, slightly suspended with his right shoulder against the door.

UPDATE x3: TMZ reports that Williams was discovered by his personal assistant. Williams' wife left the home in the morning, during the time she as away, Robin's assistant came over and knocked at the door but no one answered. She became concerned because Williams was scheduled to be home, and then knocked on the window. When she got no response, she let herself inside and that is when she found Williams.

UPDATE x2: According to TMZ, Robin Williams committed suicide by hanging himself. At this time, it appears he did not leave a note. Williams hung himself inside the main house, and not the garage as previously suspected. Law enforcement will hold a news conference today at 2PM ET to discuss details of the suicide.

UPDATE: The Marin Country Police Department has issued a statement in regard to Robin Williams' passing. The statement said that at around 11:55 AM a 911 call was made reporting that "a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his residence" in Tiburon, California. Police and fire department were dispatched to the scene where Williams was pronounced dead at 12:02 AM.

The statement adds, "An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff's Office. Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicates Mr. Williams was last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10:00 pm on August 10, 2014. Mr. Williams was located this morning shortly before the 9-1-1 call was placed to Marin County Communications. At this time, the Sheriff's Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted."

ORIGINAL: Details are still early on this one, but Robin Williams has passed away at the age of sixty-three. The San Jose Mercury News reports that Williams was found in his Tiburon, California home on Monday morning.

While the cause of death is pending, assistant county coroner Keith Boyd says that the preliminary investigation suggests that Williams died of suicide by asphyxiation. Williams had recently checked into rehab; his previous problems with drug abuse were well-known although he had been clean for years.

Williams won an Academy Award for his work in Good Will Hunting in 1997; he had also been nominated for Academy Awards for Good Morning, Vietnam and Dead Poets' Society. He was primarily known for his comic work in stand-up, in films like Mrs. Doubtfire and The Birdcage and on TV with Mork & Mindy and last season's The Crazy Ones. He was also the voice of Genie in Aladddin.

On behalf of 411, our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Williams. He will most certainly be missed.
