Two different takes...
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros has hired Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad to write two separate Aquaman scripts. The process enables studios to set release dates while the scripts are developed in order to pick the best version of the film. Just last week, the studio announced nine untitled DC movies between 2016 and 2020. They haven't revealed which one will be Aquaman, but the first untitled DC movie is set to be released on August 5, 2016. There will be two more in 2017 (June 23 and November 17). While Warner Bros hasn't officially confirmed it, many have reported that Jason Momoa has been cast as the King of Atlantis.
Beall and Johnstad have worked for Warner Bros. in the past. Beall wrote Gangster Squad and a version of Justice League before the film ended up as part of the planned shared DC movie universe. He's also written episodes of Castle. Johnstad has worked with Zack Snyder on 300 and 300: Rise of an Empire.
