Texas Chainsaw Massacre Prequel To Be Called Leatherface Posted by Joseph Lee on 08.14.2014
The Wrap reports that Seth M. Sherwood has been hired to write a new prequel to 1974's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which will be called Leatherface. The film will be released by Millennium Films. Details are being kept secret, but it's expected to follow Leatherface's early years in the 1970s.
Texas Chainsaw was released last year and starred Alexandra Daddario as Leatherface's cousin. It's unknown if she would come back, but it could be as a cameo as a member of Leatherface's family.
Carl Mazzocone will produce while Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman will executive produce. Campbell and Grobman fought to bring the franchise back and are excited to start working on the latest film. Millennium Films will finance and sell international rights. Executives Beth Bruckner and Christine Crow will oversee for the studio. Production could begin as soon as the winter with a director expected to sign in the next few weeks.
This will be slightly confusing for long-time Chainsaw fans. There has already been a movie called Leatherface (the third film in the original series) and a prequel to the remake (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning).
