Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett And More Join The Jungle Book
Posted by Joseph Lee on 08.20.2014

Warner Bros. has cast several actors for The Jungle Book, which will be Andy Serkis' feature film debut as a director. The cast includes Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris (Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom), Tom Hollander (Muppets Most Wanted, American Dad), Eddie Marsan (The World's End, Ray Donovan) and Peter Mullan (Hercules). They join Benedict Cumberbatch (Shere Khan), Bad Words' Rohan Chand (Mowgli) and Serkis (Baloo the bear).

Callie Kloves wrote the script based on Rudyard Kipling's short stories. Her father, Steve Kloves (Harry Potter) will produce with Jonathan Cavendish. The movie will use motion capture, CG animation and live action. It follows Mowgli, an orphan who is raised by wolves and befriends several animals while growing up. Bale will voice Bagheera, Blanchett will voice Kaa and Hollander will voice Tabaqui the jackal, a minion of Shere Khan. Mullan will voice Akela (the leader of the pack that raises Mowgli), Harris will voice Nisha and Marsan will voice Vihaan.

This is the second project in production after Disney's take, which will be directed by Jon Favreau. Jon Berg and Cate Adams will executive produce for WB.

Bale previously voiced a character in the English translation of Howl's Moving Castle while Blanchett voiced a character in How To Train Your Dragon 2.
