Matthew McConaughey Sought For Flagg Role in The Stand
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 08.22.2014

Perfect casting? Yeah, sounds about right. With his star back on the rise thanks to his likely Emmy-winning role in True Detective and the starring spot in Chris Nolan's Interstellar, Matthew McConaughey is said to be sought to play the villain Randal Flagg in the film version of Stephen King's The Stand. Deadline reports that the actor is Warner Bros.' top choice for the role, though nothing is official and there is no word of whether there are talks in place.

Randall Flagg, for those unfamiliar with King's books, is a recurring villain who appears to be able to cross universes. He has appeared in The Stand and the Dark Tower series, as well as King's fantasy novel Eyes of the Dragon. He appears in different guises and is hinted to be demonic in nature. He's charismatic and appeals to men and women both, drawing out the worst in everyone. Jamey Sheridan played the role in the ABC miniseries version of The Stand.
