TV Remake of In the Heat of the Night In the Works
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 08.27.2014

TV remakes are all the rage. From Boy Meets World and the recently-revealed Full House revival to Dallas, CBS' planned Charmed reboot and more, bringing old stuff back to TV is getting just as popular as in cinemas.

And now we have a new take on In The Heat of the Night in the works. Variety reports that Tate Taylor (The Help, Get On Up) is set to executive produce a new small-screen take on the John Ball novel. The new series will be written by Taylor and will take place in current-day Mississippi. The novel focuses on a black detective, Virgil Tibbs, investigating a murder in a racist Mississppi town.

The book was previously adapted into a film in 1967 starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger and won home five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. There were two sequels and a TV version on NBC which ran for seven seasons.

No network is yet attached, but it will be shopped around soon.
