John Lasseter Says There Is No Rift with Marvel Over Big Hero 6 Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 08.28.2014
Disney worked closely with Marvel for the film…
THR reports that Pixar and Walt Disney Animation CCO John Lasseter addressed a conceived notion of a rift between Marvel Studios and Disney over the release of the upcoming CG animated feature Big Hero 6. Recently, Marvel has not mentioned the film or promoted it during any press events.
In addition, the film has been absent of any type of Marvel branding in the posters and trailers. According to Newsarama, Marvel Comics also has no plans for tie-in comics to the film or plans to use any of the characters from the film in the comics either. Keep in mind, the story for the film is an original one created for the film, and the characters are completely different from the Marvel comic books.
Lasseter addressed the rumors during a special screening of 25 minutes of footage for the film. He said that Disney "worked very closely with Marvel," despite that the film "was made 100 percent here in the Walt Disney Animation Studio." Lasseter added, "We have a fantastic relationship to [Marvel]."
Lasseter continued on the recent resurgence of Walt Disney Animation, saying, "This studio is on fire. [The studio has been] creating new classic Disney films."
Producer Roy Conli was also in attendance at the screening and said the film will be completed in about six week. He stated, "The entire studio is up there finishing this."
