Dax Shepard And Michael Pena To Star In CHiPS Movie
Posted by Joseph Lee on 09.03.2014

Deadline reports that Warner Bros has hired Dax Shepard to write, direct and star in a film version of the TV series CHiPS. The series was created by Rick Rosner ran from 1977 to 1983 on NBC. It followed two motorcycle police officers on California highways. Shepard will play Officer Jon Baker (originally played by Larry Wilcox) while Michael Pena will play Frank "Ponch" Poncherello (Erik Estrada).

Warner Bros has been trying to make the film for years. They tried it years ago with Wilmer Valderrama set to star as Ponch. He got the job after he went to Greg Silverman's office in the tight uniform and asked him if it was funny. It fell through, even with other shows like Starsky & Hutch and The Dukes of Hazzard getting film adaptations. The new film will be more like Bad Boys and Lethal Weapon than an outright comedy. Shepard, a professional driver of race cars and motorcycles, expects to do his own stunts.

Andrew Panay will produce with Shepard's Primate Pictures. Rosner will be executive produce with Warner Bros' Jesse Ehrman and Nik Mavinkurve.
