IGN recently spoke with Dark Knight producer Chuck Roven. Highlights included the following.
- Said tha Heath Ledger's Joker will be a darker, more sinister version of the villain.
- Said Ledger was cast due to his range as an actor.
- Said the story is not based directly on Frank Miller's Dark Knight graphic novel but that "the tone was certainly influenced by him and other classic writers."
- Said the film's major sequence is based in Hong Kong and features Batman jumping off the side of a skyscraper, a scene in which Christian Bale didn't use a stuntman.
- Said the reason they've expanded the movie out of Gotham is to "place the fictional city in a believable context as a world city".
- Said they have not considered any future sequels or villains like the Penguin.
