[Movie] Donnie Darko Sequel In The Works
Posted by Ashish on 05.09.2008

Plans to make a sequel to Donnie Darko are moving forward with Chris Fischer (Nightstalker) set to direct. The sequel will be called S. Darko.

Richard Kelly, writer-director of the original, will apparently not be involved, although Fisher said in a statement "I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality."

Picking up seven years after the original, the plot will follow Donnie's sister Samantha on a road trip to Los Angeles, during which she is plagued by a series of bizarre visions.

Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Donnie's sister, while Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball) will also star.

The original was a major cult hit and helped turn Jake Gyllenhaal into a star.

this is by far the worst news ever. my favorite movie of all time getting the bs
lets cash in on a sequel treatment. this sequel will probably be one of the
worst ever

Garbage.

When is Hollywood gonna realize that every good movie doesn't need a sequel?

Oh yeah, when it stops making them money.

What kind of crazy plot is this to involve Samantha? What kind of weird visions?
The return of the alternate universe and the end of the world? Is Samantha gonna
have visions of a demonic The Last Unicorn figure to help her? LOL

I thought Maggie Gylenhaal was his sis in that movie?Moving on,why don't we make
a sequel to Little Nicky while we're at it.

This is a movie that should never be made into a sequel. It'll probably be some
crap horror movie made by people who have no idea what the original was about
other then "the character had a cool name".

Maggie played the older sister. They had a younger one that was into
dance/cheerleading, if I recall correctly. Either way, I dont like this news at
all.

Hopefully, Donnie Darko 2 won't be anything like the original. It was cool and
all, but it made no goddamn sense at all. I don't want to have to go get a
Ph.D. in physics to understand what's happening in a movie.

This will bomb not only that but this has got to be a direct to DVD release

But the Beauty of the movie is that it didnt make any sense, and it deffinatly
invoked the thought process, which many movies these days dont do AT ALL.

I'm beginning to doubt Richard Kelly's commitment to Sparkle Motion.

The first one sucked and this one will be the same.

Also Samantha isnt exactly the type of person to get involved with having
visions of hearing about the world going to end. Will she have her dead
brother Donnie to appear as her ghost guide?

Donnie Darko? I was actually under the impression that "Bubble Boy"
made Jake Gyllenhaal a star.

How old is Daveigh Chase anyway? Will she and the character be anywhere from
teen to grown up? And didn't she die after getting sucked into a wormhole that
brought the plane's engine down on her brother? Or did that not happen, after
all, because he died?

I was debating all this one time with some clerks at Blockbuster; man, this is
all seriously confusing.

To Patrick Guest: that premise would rehash Ginger Snaps Unleashed (a superior
series), which I doubt anyone at Darko has seen. I'm still waiting for that one
in a DVD box set.
