[Movies] Aragon Could Return In The Hobbit
Posted by Ashish on 05.21.2008

We already know that Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollumn) will reprise their Lord of the Rings trilogy roles in the upcoming prequel, The Hobbit, but now it appears others may as well. Viggo Mortensen (Aragon) has been approached about reprising his role for the film. Mortensen likely wouldn't appear in The Hobbit since he is not in the book version, but could appear in the second film that is planned to bridge the gap between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.

Guillermo del Toro will direct the film. Pre-production is scheduled to begin soon.

I was never really into the books, Tolkein was a bit long winded for me. I have on question for any fans was there any novel, or short stories that did bridge the gap between the Hobbit and the LOTR? Or is this a case of Hollywood making up a story to make a buck?

Aragon is mentioned in appendages Tolkien did for the Hobbit under his Strider name. He was tasked by Gandolf to look after the Shire. He later hunts down Golem when Gandolf starts having concerns about the ring Bilbo found. (On a side note, I'm such a nerd)

if it's a cameo in the very end of the Hobbit okay, otherwise it's too big of a change, it's supposed to be the triumph of the little people!

in the 2nd movie that's fine, his background could certainly be explored a bit more

Aragon didn't appear in any of the LOTR books. He was in that crappy dragon movie that bombed big time!

There are some stories from between the Hobbit and LOTR. They're in the appendix of Return of the King. It mostly just tells what various characters were doing over a time line, no definite stories really.

Aragon? I don't recall the medieval Spanish kingdom being mentioned in Lord of the Rings...

I kid, I know you meant "Aragon", I'm just being a gigantic pedantic nerd.
