[Movies] Raimi, Maguire Likely To Return for Spider-Man 4 & 5
Posted by Ashish on 09.06.2008

Director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire have apparently reached deals to return for Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5. The two films may be filmed back-to-back ala Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings.

No new deal has been reached with Kirsten Dunst yet, though Sony says they won't recast the Mary Jane Parker role even if Dunst doesn't return. The next two films will feature another major female role anyway.

As for the villain, the favorite as this point is to have Dylan Baker's character of Dr. Curt Connors turn into The Lizard as he did in the comics.

The new two films also apparently won't try to become darker to try and mimic the formula used by The Dark Knight.

yeah i agree, ive absolutely loved batman since i was a baby and i loved the dark knight too, but spider-man has always been a bringhter hero (thats why emo spider-man in 3 didnt work... or bc emos just suck)

Yeah, seriously. I love Dark Knight, but it looks like the same thing is happening now as did after Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen came out in the 80's. Because some very dark work became very popular, a lot of comics started getting darker for no reason other than to ape that style. The Dark Knight, like DKR and Watchmen, is popular because it's good, not because it's dark.

At least Raimi and the Spider-man folks understand that, since it looks like the folks at WB don't. I didn't like SM3 much at all, but making the series darker isn't what's needed to fix it.

Dam! Raimi screwed up spider man 3 with arguably one of the coolest villains in all of comics. Alhough im glad that they arent gonna let Spider Man 3 be the last of the films, because i wouldnt want it to end on such a bad movie, I also am scared as to what they are going to do as bad guys for these next 2 films. And yeah, Spider-Man shouldnt be a dark film.

ow can they just not have Mary Jane? It makes no sense with where the series ended.

Carnage anyone!

spidey 1 and 2 kicked sooo much ass because there was only one villian. i pray they go back to that formula.
lizard for 4 and carnage for 5.

major female role - black cat or gwen stacy or...?

I say bring the Lizard, Electro (and, since it seems unlikely there will be any more Daredevil movies), Kingpin!

lets just hope then don't screw up spiderman more...they have 2 more movies to redeem themselves from what happened in spiderman 3

I think a storyline in 4 where Kraven hunts the Lizard and Spider-man has to protect his former mentor while at the same timem battling him would be genius..Maybe end the 4th movie with Spider-man buried alive and Kraven taking over the costume ala Kraven's last hunt...It'd be a hell of a cliffhanger going into the 5th movie...

Yeah like what the hell will tobey do? SeaBiscuit 2 ???? The man is forever spider-man ... just like mark hamill and frodo.

As for going dark, They totally missed the boat with that one on spider-man3. Imagine what a great film it would have been if it went dark instead of emo

Bruce Campbell as Kraven the Hunter, please!! It would kick so much ass!! He would fit perfectly in a Lizard storyline. Kraven hunts Lizard for the city cause Spidey can't or won't hurt him(since he knows it's Dr. Connors). This leads to Spiderman having to stop Kraven from killing his friend and stop the Lizard as well. GOLD!

I like the idea of the Lizard for part 4 and then carnage for part 5. They can throw in the continuity of the leftover part of the symbiote left in Connors' office.

Since they are switching to another leading lady, how about Felicia Hardy/ Black Cat?

will this get in the way of the new evil dead movie?

Posted By: Ash (Guest)  on September 06, 2008 at 09:35 AM

HOORRAY!!!! No Mary Jane She was a beating in 2 and quite possibly even worse that Katie Holmes and Kate Bosworth if that's possible

I wont be seeing any more Spiderman movies.

Spiderman 1 and 2 were great but still had way too many cheesy moments like people running up to the screen and "you mess with spiderman you mess with NY" that took away from the experience. I really wanted to see Spidey taken in a different direction than Raimi. I don't mind if Raimi produced but now there is gonna be more cheese like Toby dance sequences...ugghh! BTW spidey wasn't always bright there are more than a couple of issues where he is on the edge but I guess it depends on the villian.

The emo thing was such a small part of the movie, it didn't ruin it for me. They tried to pack too much crap in it. Sam Raimi didn't want to do Venom. It was way too rushed and Topher Grace really didn't fit the part.
Lizard and Kraven for Spider-man 4!

fuck carnage, he's lame i want the fuckin' scorpion or Rhino

The Fifth Movie Should Star Venom And Carnage they wasted a good storyline mashing him in there at the end!!! AND Black Cat (Felicia Hardy) would be a nice addition..AND bring here are some ideas Bring in King Pin and use his Transformer like robots to hunt/fight him. Also Michael Morbius the vampire would be awesome a vampire in a superhero movie !!

I'm glad. They've taken some time off and are hopefully refreshed. I honestly think there's less pressure to "perform" than going in to Spidey 3. I enjoyed 1 & 2 a LOT, so hopefully this can pick the franchise back up to that level.

I love the Kraven/Lizard angle for the 4th installment. But Carnage simply cannot be done unless it IS a darker more brooding style...So I say bring back Venom to team up with Spidey to take down Mysterio...

Posted By: Batchild (Guest)  on September 07, 2008 at 01:59 AM

I hope Raimi doesn't get pressured into ****ing up a movie, like Spider Man 3. We all know that it was studio pressure that brought Venom into the movie.

If Venom was NOT in the movie, the movie would have been halfway decent. The characterization on The Sandman was AWESOME. However, Eddie Brock/Venom seemed like Sam Raimi's FU to studio execs.

Kavern the Hunter !

HOBGOBLIN !

Mysterio

Carnage

The jackal

Kraven and Chameleon

Or just do Kraven's last hunt in it's entirety for the two films. One of the greatest storylines in comic book history. The beauty of Kraven is he can be done in so many ways, and has been reimagined so many times that however Raimi wants to approach him, there's no way he can do it "wrong" exactly. As long as he keeps it at its core, the greatest hunter in the world who wants to kill spiderman. Has NO other agenda. He's not a criminal, he has no other purpose except that he wants to kill spiderman.

I think Raimi can do wonders with that character.
