[Movies] Terrence Howard Drops Out of Iron Man 2
Posted by Ashish on 10.14.2008

Terrence Howard has dropped out of Iron Man 2. The character of Jim Rhodes will now be played by Don Cheadle. Howard listed "financial differences, among other reasons" for his departure. Most expect the Rhodes character to have a bigger role in the sequel than he did in the first film.

i really like terrence howard, i thought he was the perfect choice. oh well, its not like they built on his character enough in the 1st film, that a quick recast would stand out like a sore thumb. cheadle's a fine actor, so i see no real problem here.

Hmmm....Don't know how I exactly feel about this. While Cheadle is indeed an excellent actor, I kinda liked the chemistry between Howard & downey.

Oh well, it's not like Cheadle is a slouch. Bad move for Howard, War Machine could've been a big role and springboarded him to higher paycheques. Other than playing a pimp in an overrated film, he hasn't done much recently.

oh well, that's howards loss...besides cheadle is more than qualified to replace him...

although i do think howard and downey had a good thing going in the first movie....oh well, at least the film is still on track.

cheadle is the man. if two is done right, war machine can spin off into it's own movie. i also hope he is in the avengers.

Wow, what an idiot, "financial differences, among other reasons" yeah that's good enough to remove yourself from probably one of the biggest movies of the year when it's released.. Sucks for us and continuity sake.

I was neutral on Howard at best. He did not come off as physically imposing as I've always imagined Rhodes, but Cheedle is even less so. The difference is Cheedle is just a much better actor and will come off much more likeable.

I have to assume that this is a result of Howard thinking he is much more important than he really is.

Howard would rather make his music. Oh well.. It's hard to be a pimp.

I agree with everyone on here.

I love Cheadle, and in my opinion better for the role.

He is more agressive and better at holding a scene...I think he will play the part better- Rhodes in the books rarely takes shit off of Stark.

Good move Marvel.

kinda sorta like katie and maggie in batman . i like cheadle , but howard played the role first . i hate when sequels change actors .

Personally, I think Michael Jai White, the guy from Spawn, should have played War Machine

Ill be happy about this when they reshoot the first Iron Man shot for shot and take Howard out replacing him with Cheadle. Replacing actors for sequels is on top of my list of things that ruin movies.

I like Terence Howard.. but this is a stupid move on his part. Cheadle is a better actor anyway. Howard will be sorry at some point this move makes no sense. he is throwing away at least 2 sequels, and the avengers movie. and everything he stood to gain in other projects. DUMB DUMB DUMB.

Hey guys, what was the biggest comic movie ever, as well as one of the biggest movies of all time? Yeah, cast changes don't hurt a thing.

Idiot... Let me drop out of one of the most guaranteed biggest movies of the year that could springboard my entire career and possibly lead to more roles and more then likely even a War Machine spin off movie. Bad move Howard, really bad move.

Posted By: Wow... (Guest)  on October 14, 2008 at 12:26 PM

Cheadle can pull Rhodey/War Machine off, I guess. I think they should've called Cuba Gooding Jr.Now Howard has more time to promote his music, right?

ah no pootie tang? damn

I love when people judge things they know nothing of. The man made a decision, you know absolutely zero full details on why. So shut the hell up and be happy with a replacement as great as Don Cheadle. Sheesh. Douchebags.

I hate when movies change characters in sequels but honestly Howard can't lick Cheadle's boots in the acting department.

I'm not saying Howard was nessecarily bad in Iron Man or anything, but he clearly looked like he belonged in a supporting role, and for him to think that he deserved more than that is ridiculous.

Iron Man 2 > Iron Man already

actors are like pro athletes;there's no fan loyalty anymore

Posted By: furey (Guest)  on October 14, 2008 at 05:02 PM

I agree with Guest4548. Micheal Jai White would have been a better choice. He makes a better sidekick than Cheadle. Cheadle is still better than Terrance Howard. I think T.H. will regret not being a part of IRONMAN 2.

Kind of like Katie Holmes not being a part of the Dark Knight. DUMB DUMB DUMB!!

"actors are like pro athletes;there's no fan loyalty anymore"

why be loyal to the fans, when all they do anymore is get on the internet and shit on every move you make in your professional and personal life?

What a dumb ass! War Machine would have brought him more attention and money than he could dream of! I prefer Michael Jai White also.

Posted By: Guest#2971 (Guest)  on October 14, 2008 at 07:09 PM

I agree Michael Jai White woulda been better from the start, he woulda likely been more apt to comeback at what Howard was offered. Im just sayin......

Terrence Howard has dropped out of Iron Man 2. Howard listed "financial differences

Sounds to me like Howard pulled out his ego and started trowing around money demands ! When they weren't met he walked !

Swelled heads ruin careers HOWARD ! They were also looking at a War Machine spin off !

Cheadle's a fine actor...but he isn't cool or bad ass/hip enough for me !

Michael Jal White ( Spawn ) would be a perfect to play the part !

Hell Taye Diggs (Equilibrium )would be a great fit as well !

If they did that they wouldn't be a FAN fucktard. Your a scalding hot pot of semen in your moms throat.

Terrence Howard, you idiot. Playing War Machine could have made him into something (see Robert Downey Jr, who is getting all kinds of movie offers right now). Oh well.

Posted By: Guest#4976 (Guest)  on October 15, 2008 at 12:51 AM

In other words, he wanted a shitload of money and they pretty much told him to go fuck himself. Don Cheadle is awesome but he is not the right guy for War Machine. Michael Jai White is the man to play War Machine.

Posted By: Joey (Guest)  on October 15, 2008 at 02:36 AM

well darth mortis, without the fans going to their movies , actors would not be working very much i would say.

Posted By: furey (Guest)  on October 15, 2008 at 03:19 AM

Poor Terrance Howard this is going to be that one mistake that haunts him forever. Forget the money Howard, there was a spin off movie being formulated already and people already liked your character (as small as the part was). It was his chance to headline a big money movie, not like being the lead star in comic book movies have done great things for any other actor *rolls eyes*

First person to call this racist cause they're implying all black people look alike in 5..4..3...

TWO.....ONE!

If will smith=capt america...
Jim Rhodes=brad pitt,tom cruise,etc

where all the fags crying racism now?!?

Posted By: Guest#6686 (Guest)  on October 15, 2008 at 09:13 PM

6686...are you saying a psycho white man is equal to a black one? RACISM!

(Roughly on the subject, Katie Holmes not being in TDK was a GOOD thing. And not just because of the Cruise stuff...she was the weakest link of BBegins, easily. I'm glad Nolan knew it wasn't working and changed accordingly, name value be damned. And yes, I recall that just after BB's run in the theater, NOLAN was the one who said that Holmes didn't work.)

Posted By: Guest#2366 (Guest)  on October 15, 2008 at 10:13 PM

he's gonna be the next katie holmes of superhero movies. he's gonna get replaced by a better actor and that persons gonna get all this success and he's gonna do some shitty movie, if any film

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Cheadie
HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

The Writes should just kill the character off & than introduce Cheadle
as a new 1.

I am very disappointed that everyone thinks that Terrence Howard would bomb his on career. I think ironman 2 will tank as all movie sequels done when they change casting. Case in point The Mummy 3.
