The highly anticipated film will hit screens earlier than expected...
Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated new film, Gangs of New York, has been pushed up from its original December 25th release date.
Miramax states that the film will be released earlier in December, but did not give a definite date.
The reason for the date change is that Leonardo DiCaprio, the star of Gangs, also has another movie due out in December under Dreamworks titled Catch Me If You Can. Both films were set to open on December 25th, but Dreamworks and Miramax have gotten together and decided to space out the releases.
As for Gangs, the movie is still not 100% complete as director Martin Scorsese is still working on the final editing and expects to be finished in November.
Gangs of New York is Scorsese's latest stab at the mob genre, as it focuses on the Irish and Italian mobs early starts in New York between the years of 1846 and 1863. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day Lewis, Liam Neeson, and Cameron Diaz.
Gangs has been delayed for awhile now. It was originally set to be released in 2001, then was delayed until July 12th of this year, until being pushed back to December 25th.
Martin Scorsese has directed other hit films such as Goodfellas, Casino, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and others.
