411 Indy Update: NECW, Ring Of Honor, NWA East/Wildside
Posted by Josh Nason on 06.23.2002

Hello all...I must say I had an outstanding time at the New England Championship Wrestling show on Friday night in Somerville, MA. The British Invasion was a hit with Jody Fleisch, Jonny Storm and Doug Williams tearing it up, as well as Japan's Sumie Sakai. Part of you wants to say "Why aren't these guys in the WWE?" with the other part hoping that never happens to taint something that is truly special in all four. That also could be said for the whole roster who put on a great effort. I even got to meet the attractive Shellie Lepere who was very nice to finally meet in person. Overall, a great night!

On a side note, I need your help with Ring of Honor. Despite putting my email address in countless amounts of times, I never get results or when shows are coming up. If any readers attend these events, can you get me results? The challenge is issued!

Also, for any indy promoters/workers that have extra tapes kicking around, I would love to watch them. Da Meltz gets stuff all the time, but alas, I sit and wait for gifts. Boo hoo. Seriously, if you want to get some more exposure, I'll give you my address via email to send any tapes to.

On to the report:

NECW Tag Title Tourney - Round 1: All Knighters beat Taylor Brothers, Slyk Wagner Brown/April Hunter beat Antonio Thomas/Bob Evans, One Night Stand beat Brian Jury/Kevin Grace, Egomaniacs beat Brothers Springate; Doug Williams beat Justin Powers, Sumie Sakai beat Mercedes Martinez for the Women's belt, NECW Champion Alex Arion beat Maverick Wild, Jody Fleisch pinned Jonny Storm. Next show is on August 9th in Somerville with a Ring of Honor 'preview' match. I heard who is coming and it is big! Maverick Wild is ok after dislocating his finger during the match, as the injury was originally thought to be much worse.

Alex Arion will represent NECW at the August 24th Ring of Honor show in Wakefield, MA.
