The Dirtball – Pop-A-D-Ball Review
Posted by Selwyn DeSa on 01.16.2006

The Dirtball first caught my attention on the Subnoize Souljaz CD with his rapid-fire delivery and did so once again with his cameos on the Judge D and Big B albums. He definitely seems to bring a different vibe to Sub Noize and I look forward to seeing what he comes with on Pop-A-D-Ball.

Bump –

Track 3) This One: The Dirtball is at his best here as his delivery meshes seamlessly with the beat and the outcome is very positive.

Track 5) We Bad: The Dirtball comes correct on this track and Just Cause and Chucky Styles absolutely rip it up here.

Track 8) Love Life: The lyrics are what really make the track here so do not just bump this one but really listen as well.

Track 9) P P P Pimp: Just Cause kills it again here, and Saint Dog sounds the best that I have heard in a while, Dirtball also comes strong, this is the definite anthem so far on this album.

Track 10) Humblin' On: The slower beat suits The Dirtball well as he once again delivers a lyrical treat here.

Track 11) Puzzle Pieces: Listen to the pure contrast in styles from the track before to this and you will see that The Dirtball is a real talent and this is one of the best tracks on the album.

Track 15) Not Afraid: The beat fits the delivery perfectly here and The Dirtball brings it lyrically.

Skip –

Track 1) Dirtball Intro: You should know by now it takes a hell of an intro to get me to suggest bumping it and this is just average.

Track 2) Bulldoggin': This is choppy and never really clicked, not a good opener.

Track 4) Hello Myself: I do not like this beat at all and it never seemed to get coordinated with The Dirtball's delivery.

Track 6) Announcement: I have an Announcement skip this.

Track 7) Unified Flight: Another track that just seemed disharmonious from the beginning and never rectified itself.

Track 12) Push Up Ya' Knucks: Daddy X appears on this track and not even that helps it as I just did not find it enjoyable whatsoever.

Track 13) The Drink: The Dirtball orders a drink, I hit next.

Track 14) We All Are: When The Dirtball hits he really connects but when he misses, it is a big whiff and this is one of those misses.

Track 16) Dr. Muzik: This is just a lot of talking.

Track 17) Writing On The Wall: This was a borderline choice but I do not think it is worth bumping.

Track 18) For What: Another track that was jus there, failed to get my attention.

Track 19) Positive Flex: I think this was a good choice to close the album just not a good track if you can get that.

Track 20) Messages Outro: This is long and not worth listening too.

Pop-A-D-Ball hits and misses in the beginning then stabilizes towards the middle, and right when it hits its stride, it drags to an end. This album that is hard to judge on the first listen, it requires multiple plays to adapt to the unique style The Dirtball brings to the table. It definitely shows potential though and I look forward to his future releases.

The 411: This is worth checking out just because it is different from what many other artists on Sub Noize bring to the table. The Dirtball has a unique style and delivery that sometimes helps and sometimes hurts on this album. The potential and talent is there though and there is enough good here for me to recommend this album to all the Suburbanites out there.

Final Score:  6.0   [ Average ]  legend
