Murs & 9th Wonder - Murray's Revenge Review
Posted by Selwyn DeSa on 03.31.2006

Murs has always has the ability to shine in group settings, any fans of the Living Legends, or his project with Slug of Atmosphere entitled Felt, know what I am talking about. However, as a solo artist, he always seems to take it to another level. 3:16 The 9th Edition was as underrated as underrated gets, but make no mistake was a classic underground album. With 9th Wonder once again by his side, will Murray's Revenge live up to the hefty standards he has set for himself?

Bump –

Track 1) Murs Day: If the opening track is any indication of what is to come, then we are in for a treat as Murs Day clicks on all cylinders, from beats, to delivery, to lyricism, everything he says is true.

Track 2) Murray's Law: Murs lays down the law and build himself up while taking shots at fake gangster rappers, very honest and catchy.

Track 3) Silly Girl (feat. Joe Scudda): A track that most men will appreciate, maybe not so much the women though, especially the stalker-type, Joe Scudda helps on this one.

Track 4) Barbershop (feat. Rapper Big Pooh): Murs talks about what probably goes down in every Barbershop in every neighborhood, his storytelling ability shines here, and Big Pooh appears.

Track 5) Yesterday & Today: Murs talks about trying to change your life, and moving past yesterday, and living for today, very good track about bettering yourself.

Track 6) Dreamchaser: Murs tells a story about growing up in the hood, and all the pressure and decisions made to survive, very deep and honest with a twist at the end.

Track 7) L.A.: An homage to his hometown, not the greatest but probably just because everything else so far has been so tight.

Track 8) Love & Appreciate: Murs talks about a deteriorating relationship and the reasons why, and putting it all back together with love and appreciation.

Track 9) D.S.W.G. (Dark Skinned White Girls): A powerful statement about stereotypes in terms of race, and how people are judged, all wrapped up in an entertaining story of different girls lives.

Track 10) Murray's Revenge: Now this is how you close out an album, Murs absolutely rips this track; he came sick with the lyrics, bump it loud.

Skip –

None

Short, sweet, and dope, These 3 words best describe Murray's Revenge. 9th Wonder came correct, as there was no weak-links in his department. Murs also proved that he is one of the realest MC's not only in the underground, but period. It is so refreshing to hear an honest album without all the bragging about selling drugs, and killing people. No skits, no bullshit, and does not wear out its welcome. Grab your potholders because this shit is hot.

The 411: This is about as close to perfection as there is, the only thing keeping it from a perfect 10 is the fact that there are only ten tracks on this album. However, every track is well done and even the worst here is better than almost anything on the radio is today. If you have been sleeping on Murs then this was your wake-up call, cop this album immediately.

Final Score:  9.5   [  Amazing ]  legend
