The Vacation - The Vacation Review
Posted by John Malady on 05.12.2006
Have you heard of The Vacation? If you haven't then you should immediately make some plans to take some time off from your everyday life and listen to their self-titled album.
Label: Warner Brothers
Release Date: April 25, 2006
The Vacation is a band that simply kicks you in your ass with some damn catchy and sleazy rock n' roll. Their self-titled Warner Brothers debut clocks in at just under thirty-five minutes and takes me back to a time when rock records hit you over the head so fast that you had to hear them again right away to make sure you were not dreaming.
I received The Vacation's self-titled album prior to its release on April 25th, 2006 and have not stopped listening to it. From the opening riff of the first tune, White Noise, I was ready to take the ride they were offering me. There are some great songs on this record and when you get any one of them in your head you feel you have to keep coming back for more. The Vacation brings me back to another time in rock music while still sounding "modern" at the same time, and they know how to blend just the right amount of style and substance. The Vacation know how to fill space with straight forward, no bullshit rock n' roll. Fist-pumping anthems for the downtrodden are all over this record with titles like I'm No Good and Destitute Prostitutes. What The Vacation celebrate in their music is the imperfection of not only Americana, but the human experience. What sets them apart from other bands is that they want you to know you are not alone and that you can stand proud of what you are no matter what that may be.
The Vacation is a spectacular album that gets better and better after each listen. I started out intrigued but quickly dove in head first and became a fan and believer, now when I listen to The Vacation I celebrate the seedy side of life while I fist pump along to every power chorus for all its worth. I take the tickets they supply and journey to their vacation getaway and every time I come back from this vacation I never question if I will be going back to visit again because I know I will return over and over.
The 411: If bullshit free rock n’ roll does it for you or even if you have never experienced rock n’ roll without images or corporate sponsors you need to make sure you get out there and take The Vacation you have always dreamed of. Maybe I will see you there and we can raise our cheap brews and toast to being imperfect and true to ourselves. Woooo! ROCK N’ROLL!
