Sosohuman - Twenty-Six Review
Posted by John Malady on 01.15.2007

Another three piece band, another record out there in the world, and yet again: another decision to make. Should I buy this record? Should I care? If so then why?

The answers are as follows: It is up to you if you want to get this record because it is not my life or cash. You should care about this band if you are into rock n’ roll only because the singer (who also plays guitar), Earl, gives Sosohuman some type of distinction and uniqueness that separates them from a million other bands out there on the planet.

His voice is somewhere between a rock n’ roll Broadway theater singer (I am thinking of Adam Pascal of Rent fame), and Tool’s, Maynard James Keenan, which is why I think this band is an interesting listen. The way Earl breaks up his syllables is original in the sense that I do not think I have heard anyone split certain words into 2 breaths like he does throughout this record. He also seems to be confident enough in his voice that he knows how to play around with it rather than be stuck inside a limited range of notes. The down side to this is that his voice will be the most interesting aspect of this band for some and for others it will be the most annoying but isn’t that what rock music is supposed to be, a love/hate relationship with the masses, some will salute certain bands and others will think the band is a piece of crap.

One other note about Sosohuman is that I do not think they sound like a band that is trying to do anything but play what pleases them so I definitely can hear some truth and conviction in their music.

The 411Sosohuman are more than just a soso band, but they are not for everyone. The music isn’t anything original but it hits hard and flows well. The singer’s voice is really what makes this band stand out and is also the piece of this band that will gain fans or turn off potential fans. If you dig rock with a different twist on the vocals than the standard modern rock n’ roll singer, check this record out. If you don’t want to take a chance on the probability that you will not like it then do not invest in it but instead spend your cash on some cigarettes and dedicate yourself to something positive and fun for your whole family.

Final Score:  7.5   [ Good ]  legend
