Living Colour – Collide0scope Review
Posted by Michael Melchor on 06.07.2004
So nice we did it twice.
Greetings and thanks for checking in. Mr. YOU couldn’t be bothered with an introduction to this thing (which may need a wee bit of backstory), so I decided to handle that duty before we get to the review...
But, Melchor, you’re probably saying to yourself, this just looks like one big AIM conversation. And not only that, but this album is LAST YEAR!
Okay, ya got me there – on both counts.
See, this all stems from an earlier conversation between Mr. YOU and I via e-mail and AIM. We both like the album and LOVE the band involved, so we decided to BOTH do the review. In the process, we realized we were making a bit of history with 411Music’s first ever tag-team review.
Then came the scheduling conflicts. Christ, do you know how hard it is to catch someone at home who has a penchant for cruising the streets during the wee hours of the morning and mowing down pedestrians? And since Evocator was busy as well, we had a difficult time catching each other on line. But finally we were in the same cyberspace at the same time and we sat for hours, turning out an excellent review in the process.
And none of it was saved, thanks to AIM blanking out the ENTIRE CONVERSATION before I had a chance to copy, paste, and save. As a result, I have a nice, steaming box of green toddler shit ready to be sent to Jonathan Miller himself. All I need now is an address. And soon, because these dirty diapers stink to high hell, even in a cardboard box.
So we had to find each other all over again and do this TWICE so that you, the readers, would finally have a chance to see greatness (?) in action.
What follows is the review/conversation that took place when we finally caught each other online during the late hours of May 30, 2004 – a review of the album, some general shenanigans, and an argument between YOU and I that’s about to come to a head...
Enjoy.
MMelchor1974: Hey yo
Evocator Manes: yo
MMelchor1974: Anything going on there?
Evocator Manes: Dicking around with the guitarline to postman
MMelchor1974: Word MMelchor1974: Good choice
Evocator Manes: Eerie guitar line. Evocator Manes: LOL Evocator Manes: What are you doing?
MMelchor1974: Yeah it is. But then that song's just scary. One of few that I've actually gotten chills from. MMelchor1974: Not a hell of a lot. Getting ready to turn in tomorrow's column... MMelchor1974: It's done - just have to mail the piece in
Evocator Manes: I got chills from the Manowar DVD...I spent a lot of today watching it.... Evocator Manes: You are Cancer, right? So is Dio and I just found this out today, Eric Adams of Manowar....
MMelchor1974: Aye? Yeah I am. Not bad, sharing signs with Dio... MMelchor1974: Awright, so lemme ask yeh this - got yer copy of Collide0scope handy?
Evocator Manes: Errrr....not right this sec....LOL hang on.... MMelchor1974: Heh...no pro'llem...
Evocator Manes: See, the thing about Manowar is that no matter how good I ever get at either vocals or guitar, I will NEVER be THAT good, you know Evocator Manes: Kind of like trying to outwrite Harlan Ellison.
MMelchor1974: And there's no shame in that. Use it as inspiration to try and top his ass.
Evocator Manes: They can do everything I can do and probably better and I can only dream of the shit they do. Evocator Manes: But, they do amplify exactly what I want a band to be.
MMelchor1974: Well then, there's your model.
Evocator Manes: Aside from making me want to cry.
MMelchor1974: Hah..
Evocator Manes: There are a lot of musicians like that, actually. Evocator Manes: I don't experience that as badly, oddly enough, with writers, though.
MMelchor1974: Naw. There are very few writers like that for me. I could probably count them on one hand. MMelchor1974: But I do have a few in music...vocally, anyway. Corey Glover's one.
Evocator Manes: Yah. Me too. Evocator Manes: Nice segue.
MMelchor1974: Thought you'd like that. But it's true, though - the shit Glover does I can attempt and only hope to match... MMelchor1974: Freddie Mercury, also.
Evocator Manes: You are so subtle.....
MMelchor1974: Like a tank.
Evocator Manes: Mercury was a Virgo....
MMelchor1974: Figures.
Evocator Manes: I was thinking more subtle like a wrecking ball to the groin. Evocator Manes: Brian May is Cancer, however...
MMelchor1974: Ahh. Yeah, that sounds about right also
Evocator Manes: So are Jeff Beck and Joe Satriani.
MMelchor1974: Word! I knew it!!
Evocator Manes: And Yngwie Malmsteen. Evocator Manes: And Geezer Butler.
MMelchor1974: OMGGZR~!
Evocator Manes: Anyway, I suppose we should kick this fucker off if we're going to do it.
MMelchor1974: Aye. Sounds good to me... MMelchor1974: You got yours ready to go? Evocator Manes: Surely.
MMelchor1974: (Still a damned shame we didn't get to keep the first time we did this...)
Evocator Manes: 25 or 6 2 4 here we go. Evocator Manes: And the thunderous bass. Evocator Manes: You know, they did this same kind of thick production on Stain, actually.
MMelchor1974: Nice groove. I love it. Wimbish was a great addition to that crew. MMelchor1974: (Sorry, Muzz)
Evocator Manes: The albums the band didn't produce have a much thinner sound....
MMelchor1974: Yeah they did - and that was their best, by FAR.
Evocator Manes: I like the line about if there is someone without sin, we can all go home. Evocator Manes: Glover is a brilliant lyricist.
MMelchor1974: No doubt. Even as far back as "Open Letter (To A Landlord)", he's always had great stuff.
Evocator Manes: It seems like they have a balance between having it thick and gloppy, just right at the borderline between having complete mud and some nice thundering stomping heaviness.
MMelchor1974: True. Like they're constructing it that way...for the heavier stuff to be nastier and the smoother parts to be cleaner...
Evocator Manes: Reid also does some great fillwork on this song also, even with the goofy Indian part thrown in.
MMelchor1974: What, this here? MMelchor1974: Agreed...what's the point?
Evocator Manes: Yes, this here. LOL No doubt, the audience can hear it right along with us.
MMelchor1974: Of course they can.
Evocator Manes: Perhaps if they start the album at the same time as they start reading the review....depending on how you edit it.
MMelchor1974: Hell, they SHOULD be... MMelchor1974: Aye. I should have it pared down pretty good...
Evocator Manes: I seriously hope folks don't download this one and go buy it. Sanctuary has done a SHIT job trying to sell it. Evocator Manes: And the band deserves much better, quite frankly. Evocator Manes: At least Robert Cray got a couple fucking singles. Evocator Manes: That was kind of a fun riff to play.
MMelchor1974: And if I can sell more than Sanctuary, then Goddamnit I want a JOB with their asses... MMelchor1974: Ooohh, this one on "A ? Of When" is kinda winding...wicked...
Evocator Manes: This one is a bit tougher....fucking detuning.
MMelchor1974: Although the first part of the lyrics...I dunno...
Evocator Manes: The verse riff is easy.
MMelchor1974: They're awright but I don't like the constant stream of questions only...
Evocator Manes: Having a bit of trouble picking out the notes on the instrument before the vocals, though. Chorus is easy, too.
MMelchor1974: In the second verse it sounds better. Maybe the cadence is more aligned. ...or something...
MMelchor1974: Aye, the chorus is well structured.
Evocator Manes: I really don't like the talkbox on this. Evocator Manes: Sounds too thin vocally.
MMelchor1974: Neither do I. Unnecessary.
Evocator Manes: I like this better than the first time. Ok. got the riff. Evocator Manes: All of them on that one.
MMelchor1974: "Operation: Mind Control"...this is just damned hummable... MMelchor1974: Lord knows I've caught myself doing it at work...
Evocator Manes: That is an excellent riff, clever and pretty simple. Evocator Manes: I like this song quite a lot this time.
MMelchor1974: Yeah it is. And once again the rhythm section has this shit locked down.
Evocator Manes: Remember when we reviewed this the first time? Remember that one time when I said something about Queensryche? Evocator Manes: Yeah. That was cool.
MMelchor1974: Strangely enough, as do I. Although the talkbox can still take a fucking hike...
Evocator Manes: Deep Purple perennially has the best and tightest rhythm section of all-time, but I think these cats give those dudes a serious run for their money.
MMelchor1974: Yeah I do. How cool would that be if LC took on "Mindcrime"? MMelchor1974: A VERY serious run. MMelchor1974: Did you know that Corey Glover was in "Platoon"? MMelchor1974: Just kidding...
Evocator Manes: HE WAS? Evocator Manes: No way? Evocator Manes: Get right the fuck out of town. Evocator Manes: He stabs himself in the leg at the end of the movie to get out.
MMelchor1974: Immediately, sir.
Evocator Manes: Not even going to try to butcher this song by trying to play it. Evocator Manes: Sorry. Evocator Manes: That last one was fun. Evocator Manes: This is reverence.
MMelchor1974: Yeah it was. And this one's just a heartbreaker...
Evocator Manes: Everything here is magic, all of it, from the guitar to the bass to the delivery of the lyrics to the lyrics themselves. Evocator Manes: Seriously, if you can listen to this song without getting choked up, you're probably dead. Evocator Manes: I just don't understand why it wasn't a single.
MMelchor1974: Yeah it is. Very understated, very pretty, very crushing.
Evocator Manes: and Jesus FUCK, that whole side-thing with Carmen, it's just....indescribable other than to say HOLY SHIT.
MMelchor1974: Hah! Very apt description.
Evocator Manes: I played this for my roommate, who's from Jersey and watched the Trade Center getting built when he was a kid and he just fucking broke. It was incredible. This song is seriously powerful. Evocator Manes: I have heard it about a zillion times and yet....shit, Glover's voice is one of resignation for a lot of it....just WOW.... Evocator Manes: I keep noticing things about it that blow me away. Evocator Manes: If there is a perfect song, this may be it.
MMelchor1974: That's the understated part I like. Other singers would hammer the shit out of this and go all over the place, but Glover knows he doesn't have to.
Evocator Manes: I can't play this one....it's just too hard to concentrate enough to get close.....
MMelchor1974: He keeps it simple and gets a lot of emotion out of a little effect.
Evocator Manes: Even the solo makes me want to bawl. Evocator Manes: The second one anyway. Evocator Manes: Gorgeous agony.
MMelchor1974: No doubt. Vernon's right in line with that. Like David Gilmour on "Comfortably Numb"... MMelchor1974: ...which reminds me, motherfucker, I have a bone to pick with you-- MMelchor1974: --never mind, this ain't the time or place...
Evocator Manes: Coward. Evocator Manes: We are at the first throwaway song of the album anyway.
MMelchor1974: Yeah we are. Why do they keep thinking that techno suits them?
Evocator Manes: I don't know. Let's just all get together, write them a letter, tell them that we KNOW they are versatile, so just spare us the constant evidence....
MMelchor1974: Good idea. I'll get the paperwork on that started later tonight.
MMelchor1974: Ppffff MMelchor1974: Jesus CHRIST, WHY did they have to do AC/DC? Brian Johnson-era, no less - the REALLY sorry shit...
Evocator Manes: This song seriously sounds better every time I hear it. Evocator Manes: This is awesome, dude. Seriously.
MMelchor1974: SOMEbody has to like it, I guess.
Evocator Manes: It takes serious balls to pull this off. I hope they come here live.
MMelchor1974: They do a good version of it, of course, but I'm just so fucking burned out on this song that I can't stand it anymore...
Evocator Manes: I plan on requesting this....well, this and Postman and then maybe trying to get a guitar lesson from Reid. Evocator Manes: They breathe new life into an old classic, unlike the current Pink Fraud, who sucks the life out of all the old material instead.
MMelchor1974: This is Daytona Beach, where culture is well-nigh nonexistent. This and "Bad To The Bone" are played at least once an hour on the fucking classic rock stations. MMelchor1974: Thanks, Clear Channel. MMelchor1974: How in the FUCK did Floyd suck the life out of The Wall? Or "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason"?
Evocator Manes: The backing chorus vocals sound a bit uninspired. Evocator Manes: Everything else is awesome. Evocator Manes: Momentary Lapse Of Reason is the most aptly titled album ever.
MMelchor1974: Pink Floyd aged well. They didn't blow their own brains out. MMelchor1974: Fuckbake.
Evocator Manes: Permanent Residence Of Boredom would have been more appropriate, however.
MMelchor1974: And of course the chorus sounds uninspired - they probably hate the fucker, too.
Evocator Manes: The rest of the song sounds like they are all on fire, bayb. Evocator Manes: With rock n roll. Evocator Manes: I wish there was some cowbell in it, though.
MMelchor1974: That's true. I won't denigrate their handling of the song because it IS masterful. I just wish they could have chosen something a LOT better (which wouldn't have been tough to do).
Evocator Manes: Nightmare City rocks, though.
MMelchor1974: Heh...cowbell... MMelchor1974: This is excellent. MMelchor1974: "Nightmare City" sounds longing...and mean...great stuff... MMelchor1974: The Jamaican rhythm tops it off well, also
Evocator Manes: That riff is some good fun to play, too. Reminds me a bit of Sabbath.
MMelchor1974: I can see that.
Evocator Manes: This is a really great song.
MMelchor1974: See, Living Colour could have even done "Paranoid" instead and I would have been happy with that... MMelchor1974: ...or broke out their cover of "Crosstown Traffic"...
Evocator Manes: I like how the guitar "speaks" and here comes Glover's balls-out vocal stuff. Evocator Manes: Fuck yeah, rock it, baby! Evocator Manes: Both those songs are undeserving of this album, dude.
MMelchor1974: Aww yeah~! Good make-up track after the last 2 MMelchor1974: Oh, and "Back In Black" was perfectly acceptable? MMelchor1974: Puh MMelchor1974: fucking MMelchor1974: leeze
Evocator Manes: It was perfectly AWESOME. Evocator Manes: It needed double kick drums, but aside from that..... Evocator Manes: Nightmare was a great fucking track.
MMelchor1974: It needed to be discluded in favor of something GOOD
Evocator Manes: I tell you, if Sanctuary had gotten behind this at all, it would have sold big.
MMelchor1974: Yeah it was. Awesome stuff.
Evocator Manes: Song Without Sin is a clever title, no?
MMelchor1974: Very true. They barely said a word about it and expected the band's name to carry it...
Evocator Manes: I think Queensryche named one of their videos or something Operation: Mind Control.
MMelchor1974: but they had to realize that the band has been gone for TEN FUCKING YEARS... MMelchor1974: Wasn't that an album?
Evocator Manes: No, Operation: Mindcrime.
MMelchor1974: <---being facetious
Evocator Manes: I may do a Time Machine on that, except I didn't think the album was all that great....probably Rage For Order.
MMelchor1974: The video you're thinking of (I think) is "operation: Live Crime"
Evocator Manes: Goddammit, Mitts, talk about the fucking album. Evocator Manes: Shit. Evocator Manes: Well, Lost Halo is kind of a filler track, I guess you would say.
MMelchor1974: Okay, "Lost Halo"...another great one. MMelchor1974: And THEN comes this solo...wow.....
Evocator Manes: WHAT? Evocator Manes: Solo is good, song is ok. Evocator Manes: Oh, here comes another stellar Glover vocal line towards the end.
MMelchor1974: I like Corey's voice on this track, though. There are better songs on the CD, but this is a very nice vocal.
Evocator Manes: It is good filler, but still filler. Evocator Manes: I remember the first time we did this, probably better.
MMelchor1974: True. it's just well done. MMelchor1974: "Probably"? MMelchor1974: I'm almost certain it was...
Evocator Manes: These poor readers have to endure Pink Fraud arguments in the middle of this because you can't stay on track and couldn't remember to save the fucker.
MMelchor1974: Thanks fucking heaps, AIM...
Evocator Manes: They should all drive to Florida with some shotputs and a few socks and give you a whuppin'.
MMelchor1974: Left nut: I was in the process when AIM took a shit...
Evocator Manes: LOL
MMelchor1974: Right nut: Swear to God I'm going to have to do a whole damned column proving your ass wrong.
Evocator Manes: LOL Evocator Manes: ROFLMFAO Evocator Manes: Again, Holy Roller, somewhat dead song with good guitar and a great vocal performance. Evocator Manes: Kind of an interesting shuffle beat, though.
MMelchor1974: Nicely done. But, 2 throwaways in a row...
Evocator Manes: I really like the verse to chorus breakdown, though. Evocator Manes: That is probably the best part of the song. Evocator Manes: The bridge really sucks....holy shit.
MMelchor1974: True. Another in the category of "mediocre song, good performance"...
Evocator Manes: I think I may have to downgrade this album from the last time, actually. Evocator Manes: It just can't hold a candle to Stain, ultimately. That whole thing was fucking great. Evocator Manes: You never knew what to expect.
MMelchor1974: Oh, exactly. "Stain" was just by Gawd brilliant
Evocator Manes: This blues shuffle shit is ok, but Living Colour seems to be almost floundering in search of an identity when they fuck around this much and stray. Evocator Manes: Stain was an easy 10. This.....well, we'll get to that in good time.
MMelchor1974: (and THERE'S your obligatory Good Ol' JR reference!)
Evocator Manes: Rage Against The Murphy will be pissed you threw wrestling into our "serious" musical discussion. What about the credibility? What about the kids?
MMelchor1974: Again, we go back to proving their versatility...we already know it, so why waste the effort showing us all over again? MMelchor1974: We know you guys can do everything - stick to what you do BEST.
Evocator Manes: Here is my PSA for this review: EMO IS FOR FAGS AND DUMB FUCKS. DON'T BE A DUMBFUCK. Evocator Manes: Great Expectation is another GREAT fucking song, Evocator Manes: They are capable of such tremendous brilliance. Evocator Manes: I really dig the bass and drum vibe here.
MMelchor1974: Yeah they are. THIS is the sort of thing they need to stick to...
Evocator Manes: And the chorus is nothing short of fundamentally killer.
MMelchor1974: Aye. The vocal line is chill inducing.
Evocator Manes: This song is just out of this world, but the bass and drums tie it in and lock it down so well. This works flawlessly. Evocator Manes: I'm really excited to see where they go from here. Evocator Manes: I think we had to kind of expect this out of the gate, though. After that long of a layoff, they kind of had to remind people of both their diversity and just what heights they were/are capable of. Evocator Manes: I expect a much more cohesive album next go around.
MMelchor1974: This part's just eerie..."I was gonna save the world"...
Evocator Manes: This one has a bit of a flow problem....yeah, I was just thinking that. Evocator Manes: Kind of odd how we think a lot when you are right. Of course, when you are wrong, then you think oppositely of me. Evocator Manes: Think a lot alike, that is.... Evocator Manes: Fuck, forgot part of it.
MMelchor1974: As it should be because you being so wrong gets embarrassing...
Evocator Manes: Whammy bar fun with Vernon Reid.
MMelchor1974: *Ducks for cover*
Evocator Manes: That made no sense, Mitchell. Evocator Manes: Choices Mash Up.....an intriguing song, part of which is really good and part of which should be adjusted so that it is all really good. Evocator Manes: You know, it almost sounds as if they ran his voice through a vox through a keyboard so they could use the pitchshifter to dick with it.
MMelchor1974: In other words, an apt description of the song itself... MMelchor1974: I think so. Too much effect in his voice - which, again, DOESN'T NEED IT...
Evocator Manes: It sort of works on this one, though. Evocator Manes: Listen to how it blends so carefully with the guitar distortion in the verseline. Evocator Manes: During the "yes sir, no sir" part.
MMelchor1974: That runs well, but that oddball harmony line from him (the lower one) throws it out of whack.
Evocator Manes: Ok, at 2:54, the song goes straight to Hell with some techno-esque goofy bullshit straight out of Triple X. Evocator Manes: The movie, that is.
MMelchor1974: I was just going to say, "and then comes the porno ending"... MMelchor1974: Bleh.
Evocator Manes: No, it goes back to the other part before ending. Evocator Manes: I just have no idea what that was for or where they were going or what they were trying to achieve.
MMelchor1974: Thaaat's right...my fault
Evocator Manes: You are always wrong when you are not in agreement with me, fucko. Evocator Manes: Kind of clever how Glover ties slavery into customer service type work....
MMelchor1974: Umm, you did see earlier that I'm right in not agreeing with you because you've made being wrong an art form, right?
Evocator Manes: Are we not the sons of slaves? is a great way to end the song.
MMelchor1974: Hah! The man has a spot-on point...
Evocator Manes: No, I didn't see that.
MMelchor1974: Go back and read it later...
Evocator Manes: I am never wrong, thus I cannot possibly have performed the function you are claiming. Evocator Manes: You clearly are delusional.
MMelchor1974: Heh. Yeah you are...
Evocator Manes: Pocket Of Tears, yet another very, very solid song. Evocator Manes: Even in the bad songs, there are some really good elements.
MMelchor1974: Or, if they're nearly irredeemable, then at least they're performed well MMelchor1974: (Like “Back In Black”)
Evocator Manes: It seems like they had too many musical ideas and just tried to fit them all in, whether they worked or not. Evocator Manes: They should have only done one cover and it shouldn't have been that fucking old tired piece of shit Beatles song.
MMelchor1974: Exactly. And much of it was unnecessary. MMelchor1974: Better that than AC/DC.
Evocator Manes: Blues solo here is really nice. Evocator Manes: I really like that line of "Carved Myself Out Of Nothing."
MMelchor1974: Aye. Very telling.
Evocator Manes: This whole song is really brilliant, even if not particularly one of the stronger ones.
MMelchor1974: True. Taken altogether, this one surprises you. MMelchor1974: And really, it should have ended the CD.
Evocator Manes: It is solid, but not overwhelming, I don't think. Evocator Manes: I thought I liked Sacred Ground. Evocator Manes: I would have kept that, too.
MMelchor1974: No, it isn't. But a little re-arranging (and a deletion or 2) could have helped this album out a lot.
Evocator Manes: Oh, yeah, this is a really good track, also. Evocator Manes: Well, a good track, I guess. Evocator Manes: Maybe not really good. Evocator Manes: I would have kept it, though.
MMelchor1974: Aye. Vernon is already going balls-out and Corey hasn't sung a word yet...! MMelchor1974: This one was on the list to keep on the last one, I believe
Evocator Manes: I would have dumped both the songs following this, definitely In Your Name. Evocator Manes: Yeah, I think we wanted to keep it, but I don't know about ending the album on Pocket. Evocator Manes: I almost think they could have ended it after Flying, because nothing else really on this album could follow this.
MMelchor1974: See, to me that would have been an ending worthy of "Wall" off of Stain...
Evocator Manes: That was another thing about Stain, they ended it so very well with Walls..... Evocator Manes: They recorded an album after that....I wonder what happened to that..... Evocator Manes: I probably would have dumped A ? Of When also....
MMelchor1974: Aye. I think I would have...
Evocator Manes: The album would be better closer to 10 or 11 songs, I should think.
MMelchor1974: Maybe 12
Evocator Manes: Even still, with the remaining material, it would have flowed better, but a lot of the material is still not that strong. Evocator Manes: The whole < the sum of the parts.
MMelchor1974: Well said.
Evocator Manes: Outside of a few stellar pieces here, such as the first song, Flying, Operation, Back In Black, Nightmare City and Great Expectation.....
MMelchor1974: And very true. I still think that they tried to do too much just to prove they could and should have gone with what they know best and run with it.
Evocator Manes: Half the would-be album would be excellent, the rest would be mostly solid filler. Evocator Manes: The album is a bit chaotic.
MMelchor1974: And while it IS solid, it IS still filler.
Evocator Manes: Jesus Christ, this fucking Beatles track SUCKS.
MMelchor1974: Aye. Not quite schizophrenic, though, which is a point in their favor...
Evocator Manes: I don't think the vocals are at all good on it. Evocator Manes: Matter of fact, it is not a well-written song at all. The drum parts are dull, the bass line is dopey and the guitar, while better than the rest, is still not all that great.
MMelchor1974: They're okay...definitely better to be found on this record...
Evocator Manes: If they were going to do a cover like this, they should have just went apeshit with it. Evocator Manes: It is the WORST cover on this record. Evocator Manes: They should have went death metal with it, instead of the psychedelic bullshit.
MMelchor1974: Very true. This isn't a place where understated works very well for them...
Evocator Manes: What does "not quite schizophrenic" mean, exactly?
MMelchor1974: Hah! Death metal!
Evocator Manes: They are overamplifying throwaway with the last two tracks.
MMelchor1974: It means that it's chaotic because of all the shit they try to do, but not so bad with it that they can't decide who they are...hence, schizophrenic...
Evocator Manes: There is just no reason for them to exist, let alone be on an album. Evocator Manes: Ummmm, ok. Evocator Manes: MM PRONOUNCES NEW LIVING COLOUR RECORD "NOT SCHIZOPHRENIC!" Film at 11.
MMelchor1974: I have to agree with that. I like the Beatles and all, but this was unnecessary. MMelchor1974: I also still like the idea of putting "Crosstown Traffic" on here in place of BOTH covers
Evocator Manes: Glad we already covered THAT ground. Evocator Manes: Although the movie delayed their first album.
MMelchor1974: Someone alert the media--oh, wait, we are the media...
Evocator Manes: Crosstown Traffic also sucks, but I bet the band would have done it better than this absurdity to end the disc.
MMelchor1974: Exactly. MMelchor1974: If they HAD to go with covers, that would have been my choice. MMelchor1974: ...and that's a wrap.
Evocator Manes: Well, Back In Black was more a shock than a surprise, but they pulled it off well. Evocator Manes: Gotta give them credit there.
MMelchor1974: "Shock" is a gross understatement.
Evocator Manes: They could have done "School" like fucking Fear Factory did.
MMelchor1974: But aye, even I'll give it up to them for it (even though the song itself still gives me the hives) MMelchor1974: Bastard.
Evocator Manes: You knew I was going to have to bitch about that, right?
MMelchor1974: Of course. And that I'll agree with - that was another unnecessary cover... MMelchor1974: ...but this is another discussion for another time...
Evocator Manes: On an unnecessary album. Evocator Manes: Does Pink Fraud do covers, other than their current career?
MMelchor1974: Never heard one out of them - just more well-rounded songs that proved that they grew well and were right in sticking it out.
The 411 Evocator Manes: Let's rate this bitch, shall we? Evocator Manes: We both said 8 last time.
MMelchor1974: Aye. MMelchor1974: I believe we did...that sounds about right...
Evocator Manes: On the strength of the songs, I would say 7. HOWEVER, there is the whole artwork thing, which is some very cleverly planned and meticulous stuff. In fact, we didn't talk about it enough.
Evocator Manes: All the lyrics are there. Evocator Manes: So, in light of the great package as a whole, I would upgrade it to 8.0. Evocator Manes: Still.
MMelchor1974: Hell, we didn't talk about it this time AT ALL...
Evocator Manes: LOL Evocator Manes: We already covered it, Evocator Manes: Fuck the readers. Evocator Manes: kidding....
MMelchor1974: Hah! MMelchor1974: No you're not.
Evocator Manes: Of course I am. I love the readers. Evocator Manes: My fanbase worldwide of millions....and millions.
MMelchor1974: You know, I think they also missed out on the full story of Corey Glover in "Platoon"...
Evocator Manes: Of the most electrifying columnist in the history of words. Evocator Manes: Oh fuck, you tell that story, then.
MMelchor1974: I can't remember it.
Evocator Manes: Good. Evocator Manes: No one cares. Evocator Manes: Trust me.
Addendum:
MMelchor1974: Exactly. You see how much I cared about it to remember every vivid detail
Evocator Manes: We can't bore the fans, unlike every Pink Floyd album since Wish You Were Here......
MMelchor1974: (No pun intended) MMelchor1974: Oh yeah, because "The Wall" was just SSOOOO dull...
Evocator Manes: The Wall was Waters' first solo album. Evocator Manes: I told you.
MMelchor1974: What decade do you live in, anyway? MMelchor1974: Once again - tell that to "Comfortably Numb", motherfucker.
Evocator Manes: Oh great, Gilmour writes one fucking guitar solo and all of a sudden it's not a Waters solo album anymore. Evocator Manes: Bullshit....
MMelchor1974: He did more than that on it. And he can play those better than Waters can anymore.
Evocator Manes: Do you think Floyd will ever reunite, though? Evocator Manes: Waters never played guitar solos, so I imagine Gilmour can. Evocator Manes: And Gilmour did not do much at all on that album, dude.
MMelchor1974: Hell no. Gilmour already said that they've done all they can and NOW'S the time to go out on top...
Evocator Manes: Neither did Wright. Evocator Manes: The time to go out on top was after the tour of 1975. Evocator Manes: LOL Evocator Manes: I look forward to that column, though.
MMelchor1974: After all this, I may stay up to finish it tonight...
