“Trina’s on TV, she cute, not when she sings though, hit mute”
“Trina’s on TV, she cute, not when she sings though, hit mute” rang out the immortal words of Afroman. Trina is a very beautiful young woman and in today’s industry it seems like that is more important than talent these days. Today’s mission is to find out if The Glamorest Life is more style than substance.
Bump –
Track 1: Sum Mo – Not a bad opener, not great either though, Trina and Dre have good chemistry, I will be generous and say bump it.
Track 2: Don’t Trip – I like Lil Wayne on this track, something about his delivery seems to draw me in, Trina comes strong here too.
Track 4: Here We Go – This is the single, I am feeling it, Trina comes off good and Kelly Rowland adds nicely to it.
Track 6: Da Club – I like the beat and the delivery here, Mannie Fresh does a good job, this does not seem like the typical track I would like but I enjoyed it here.
Track 13: Lil Mama – Dre helps close out the album confessing his true feeling for Trina as they play off each other well and create a nice blend and mood on this track.
Skip –
Track 3: Shake – Lil Scrappy appears and does his whole okay kay kay thing that I hate; this is a little crunk for my taste but sounds like a future club hit.
Track 5: Sexy Gurl – Trina does a bad Snoop imitation then Snoop sleepwalks through his verse, Co and Money Mark Diggla also appear but do not contribute anything worth something.
Track 7: It’s Your Birthday – I swear if I hear that ladies and gentleman Jazze Phe thing on one more song I am going to go crazy. Skip this just for that and besides the whole it’s my birthday thing is lame.
Track 8: I Gotta – Trina and Rick Ross tell us all about the things they gotta do, I gotta skip to the next song.
Track 9: Throw It Back – Sounds like one of those songs that could become a sex anthem but I found it unfulfilling, Duece Poppi is decent here but not great.
Track 10: 5050 – I could have gone either way on this track featuring Trey Songz but in the end, it was nothing special or memorable and I have no problem suggesting skipping it.
Track 11: So Fresh: I did not like the beat all that much or maybe it was the delivery and I found the chorus irritating, Plies also appears on this track.
Track 12: Reach Out – This is the only song on the album that Trina does not have help on and it is not that great, I will let you decide for yourself if that is a coincidence.
With 12 out of 13 tracks featuring guest artists it is almost easy to forget that this is Trina’s album and not just some R&B compilation, it also makes me think that maybe she cannot stand on her own two feet and my more style than substance comment was right on point.
The 411: This is not particularly a bad album and I am sure there is an audience out there for it unfortunately, that does not include me. I am not a huge fan of having too many guest stars because it takes away from the main artist and this is mostly guest appearances, and most who appeared did not even bring their A game and for that reason I have to pass on recommending this CD.
