Dancing About Architecture 04.14.09

The bit at the start

Happy Tuesday, I'm still ill so as it seems that I've transformed into some sort of invalid weakling I'd get straight to it in case I die mid-column, no offence dudes but there's a lengthy list of things I'd like to die doing before writing an internet column comes inot the equation. I'd like to write at length about how much I like the Clues (featuring former members of Arcade Fire and The Unicorns) album but that will have to wait for a week.

Go time …

Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.

The Jesus Lizard - Goat

Really looking forward to seeing them next month.

You news, you lose

Dan Deacon wants your fat.

Dan Deacon is currently touring North America with a rather large band and in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the tour he's using a school bus converted to run on waste vegetable oil as a tour bus. As you can imagine it's a little bit harder to source waste veggie oil on the road than petrol (sigh, "gas", sigh) so he's offering to trade oil for concert tickets. Deacon explained in full via a MySpace bulletin which you can read below …

hello,

the school tour bus the 20 of us are riding in runs on veggie oil. we need help gathering that oil to fuel our bus. if anyone can bring at least 5 gallons of waste veggie oil to one of the shows we will put you on the guest list. it is easily found behind almost all restaurants.

if the oil looks dark and full of crud we can't use it. the lighter the color and the less viscous the better. if you can bring us CLEAN and filtered oil we can put you + 1 on the list.

an easy way to filter the oil would be to stretch a tight sheet or t-shirt over a bucket and pour the oil into the bucket through the sheet to get all the gunk out. a slower way, but better way, would be to tie one of the pant legs of jeans into a tight knot and hang that over a bucket and pour the oil into the jeans, and clean oil will slowly pass into the bucket.

to arrange the grease for list swap you can call geoff at 862-266-6130. call or text him. he is our oil master. the more oil the better. we have enough storage for 100 gallons of oil. if you can get us 30 gallons we'll cook you dinner on the bus (we have a little kitchen and many great cooks).

please repost this to anywhere you think it might help. thanks you!

So hey, if you're pissing away your life working in a fast food restaurant it might finally pay off for you.

I wonder if this means there'll be more than Revolver that I actually like.

On September 9th entire Beatles catalogue will be re-released via Apple Corps/EMI on CD. All 12 Beatles records will be reissued plus the soundtrack to Magical Mystery Tour and Past Masters Vol. I and II in stereo that features the original UK artwork and liner notes. And for a limited time each album will come with a brief documentary about that album. And of course all 14 releases over 16 discs will be available as a box set with a DVD deaturing the collected mini-docs.

On top of that there's another box set on the way called The Beatles in Mono collecting the band's 10 mono records as well as an additional 2 discs of mono masters.

Do you like fishsticks?

After watching last week's South Park I couldn't decide whether or not it was one of the best things that they've ever done or a really laboured way to say that Parker & Stone think Kanye West is a bit of a prick. Regardless of that West responded to the episode with surprising good humour and self awareness. In a post that is actually probably funnier than the episode itself on his blog West wrote …

SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT'S PRETTY FUNNY. IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK! I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO THOUGH. HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER. I USE TO USE IT TO BUILD UP MY ESTEEM WHEN NOBODY BELIEVED IN ME. NOW THAT PEOPLE DO BELIEVE AND SUPPORT MY MUSIC AND PRODUCTS THE BEST RESPONSE IS THANK YOU INSTEAD OF "I TOLD YOU SO!!!" IT'S COOL TO TALK SHIT WHEN YOU'RE RAPPING BUT NOT IN REAL LIFE. WHEN YOU MEET LITTLE WAYNE IN PERSON HE'S THE NICEST GUY FOR EXAMPLE. I JUST WANNA BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM. I NEED TO JUST GET PAST MYSELF. DROP THE BRAVADO AND JUST MAKE DOPE PRODUCT. EVERYTHING IS NOT THAT SERIOUS. AS LONG AS PEOPLE THINK I ACT LIKE A BITCH THIS TYPE OF SHIT WILL HAPPEN TO ME. I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I'M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE BUT I'M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE. I'M SURE THE WRITERS AT SOUTH PARK ARE REALLY NICE PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DRAW MY CREW. THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY ALSO!! I'M SURE THERE'S GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN THIS... THAT'S HOW YOU KNOW IT'S ME!

Yeah it's pretty absurd but there is an important life lesson here, we should all try to be doper people by not telling people how dope we think we are.

On Radio The TV

Today see the release of the TV On The Radio remix EP Read Science. It's out in Interscope (unsurprisingly, they are signed to them) and features remixes of songs from last year's Dear Science (ha, I geddit).

If you want to buy it here's what to look for on the shelves …

Tracklisting:

01 Shout Me Out (Willie Isz Remix by Jneiro Jarel)
02 Stork & Owl (Gang Gang Dance Remix)
03 Red Dress (Glitch Mob Remix)

The YouTube video of the week

2 videos this week, one that I wanted to post anyway and another just to mark an anniversary.

Next up … is it bad that my favourite Nirvana song is one that Cobain didn't write? Anyway, 15 years gone this month.

If you can you should go to these gigs.

People only liked that episode because it targeted Kanye (can't say I blame you). But otherwise the episode wasn't all that funny, except that part Kanye was trying to peice together why Fishsticks makes his a gayfish. I don't know what to think of the season thus far...wait, wrong section huh...
