Indie Info 10.11.02: Let's All Do The Skank
Posted by Eric Katz on 10.11.2002
The Suicide Machines do the skank, conspiracy against T(I)NC, Student Rick, Northstar, Mad Caddies, H20, Rise Against, and some more non-generic nonsense.
Welcome back. It’s me, it’s me, it’s E r i c Katz. I’ve got a whole bunch of indie information for you. It was actually a decent week for news, yay! Plus some more releases and some tours. On an unrelated note, did we all have fun spinning the wheel and making the deal? I know I did . . . I slept. Take that Scott Keith! Pessimism at it’s finest! (note: I have nothing against Scott Keith, I’m just making a joke . . . don’t piss your pants).
Top Story
The following is the official press release from Side One Dummy Records:
The Suicide Machines Sign Deal With Los Angeles Based Independent Label SideOneDummy Records.
After four albums with Hollywood Records, The Suicide Machines have signed with the Los Angeles based Independent label, SideOneDummy Records. Hailing from Detroit—The Suicide Machines are best known for their debut release, Destruction By Definition and it's single, S.O.S. The Machines have already developed a dedicated following all over the world with their mixture of Punk Rock, Hardcore, Ska and Pop as the story of the bands amazing live show continues to spread. The Suicide Machines are set to release their 5th studio album in the spring on 2003.
Here is what Dan from The Suicide Machines had to say about coming to SideOneDummy:
"I'm extremely happy to be working with people who I've been friends with for many years. SideOneDummy has an awesome roster of bands and they're definitely one of the hardest working and most organized labels in the business right now. I'm stoked and glad to get the opportunity to make records with some great people."
SideOneDummy couldn't be happier about their new band. Joe Sib and Bill Armstrong, owners of SideOneDummy, had this to say about signing The Suicide Machines:
"We have been fans of these guys since their split EP with The Rudiments on Beach Recordings. The Suicide Machines are everything we love in a band; great songs and a ripping live show. We are proud to have the opportunity to work with such a great band."
So The Suicide Machines are going to SideOne Dummy. This is a label with two HUGE powerhouses right now, The Bosstones and Flogging Molly. We’ll see what happens, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see SideOne Dummy sign a few more well known bands.
And Now I Shall Pull A Rabbit From My Hat
Following up on last week’s top story, here’s some more pessimism for your life.
Glassjaw has cancelled their European tour because Daryl is experiencing some health problems.
Due to Ludwig's back problems The (International) Noise Conspiracy have been forced to cancel all dates on the Plea for Peace Tour. (reported from http://alt.digitalfarmers.com/tinc/)
Ironically last week we received reports of an injury to William Davis of Student Rick. Well listen to what happened this week. William Zachary Neal Davis has left Student Rick. The rest of the band is going to stay together and continue to make music. Davis released a statement, talking about how this is a result of the injury and the current state of the band.
Lets get a little more positive, shall we? Rise Against will be recording their new record this November. You can expect the new album out in March of 2003. In the meantime, the band will be taking a break from touring.
Mad Caddies have recorded the first half of their upcoming. The second half will be recorded in November and the record is scheduled for march. According to Keith (Trumpet) it goes a little bit more in the direction of "Duck and Cover" and has less pop and more horns then "Rock the Plank".
It’s a little sketchy right now, but www.meanstobe.com/std/ is reporting that Pete Parada of Face to Face will be Saves The Day’s new drummer. No confirmation from Saves The Day or Vagrant Records. The new STD website is supposed to be up soon, so we’ll find out then.
To Save Or To Spend
New releases, here they are:
From Epitaph:
Hot Water Music “Caution”- Hmmmm, sounds a little poppier to me. Not the emo inspired stuff of old, I can tell you that. It’s a decent cd really, but if it’s your first Hot Water Music cd then this isn’t the best one for you.

Before I Go . . .
Let me pimp off a few links from the 411Music section before I go.
Matt Biscuiti’s head keeps falling off . . . This time he talks about what he’s done in the past few days. Some good concerts, so you’ll get a few concert reviews. Go here to read it.
Freakboy enters the deeps of the X- Factor and gives you his opinions on Bon Jovi. You can see that doozy right here.
And if Adam Wallis had something new for me to pimp, I’d pimp it here but he doesn’t. . . . well just go read something of his!
Conclusion
Another week is done and so I’m done as well. Good thing too. I’ve got more work than I need. So I’m done. See ya all next week.
