Let me tell you what to think about all the news in the music world!
Hello everybody, it's time for the FIRST EVER 411 Tuesday Music News Update! You best print this out and frame it as it will become a valuable collector's item in years to come! Several new albums are coming out today including new Christina Aguilera and Tori Amos, the soundtrack to "8 Mile" and new NIRVANA. Look for reviews of this stuff soon. I'm listening to Radiohead, but to the news!
Ringo Starr Making a New All-Starr Band
Ringo's making plans now for the 2003 version of his All-Starr band. So far the only announced person is John Waite. How next year's band will compare to the past ones really can't be said until the rest of the members are announced, but Ringo has definitely put together some good groups before.
Santana Going to Iraq?
Guitar-god Carlos Santana is wanting to play a show in the heart of Iraq as a way of spreading love and peace through the world. I'm sure Saddam Hussein would just love to have Carlos come to Baghdad. What anti-American radical dictator wouldn't want to have a rock show in his country? I have this weird feeling this whole thing would turn into a situation similar to the Critic when he went to Baghdad during the Gulf War. Anyway, Santana playing anywhere is always great, but I seriously doubt anything will be entering Iraq soon except some jet fighters. MTV.com has a small interview with Santana where he talks about alot of hippie ideas and seems to reference LSD a lot.
Bjork's Mother On Hunger Strike
Hunger Strike was a great song. From Baghdad we go to Iceland where the mother of singer Bjork is on her 4th week of a hunger strike. Her strike is aimed at stopping some power plants from being built in the nature of Iceland. The ironic part is that the power plants are hydroelectric, thus being safer for nature than almost any other power. The poor lady is 56 years old and has lost 14 pounds so far. The building company says they have no plans to stop production.
Paul McCartney Cancels Australia Show
Paul McCartney becomes the third artist to cancel a show in southeast Asia due to terrorism activity in the area. Unlike the Red Hot Chili Peppers who canceled only after the US State Department asked them and Oasis who canceled after not wanting to bother with extra security, McCartney has canceled his show out of respect for the victims of the attacks. He believes that not many people in Australia are thinking about a rock concert right now. McCartney is continuing on with his US and Mexican tour, before heading out to Japan and who know where else.
Auctions!
Henry Rollins is auctioning off one of his guitars signed by a billion famous musicians as a way to raise money for the West Memphis Three, a group of young men sentenced to prison for murder under very strange circumstances. Rollins along with many believe the boys were only convicted after the jury was scared with tales of rock 'n roll Satanism. Rollins is also releasing an album of Black Flag covers by various people to raise money for the group. Black Flag are god so go buy Henry's guitar and the new covers album! You can pretend you're a political activist.
Elvis' barber has an auction too, but unlike Rollins, this money is going in his pocket! The barber is selling a "baseball sized" amount of Elvis' hair. He claims it is extremely rare as other Elvis collectors simply have a few strands of the King's hair. The bidding is starting at $10,000.
A Marriage Made on TRL
Jessica Simpson and the guy from 98 Degrees' got married over the weekend in Texas. They danced to Van Morrison and then rocked the casbah at a fancy resort. It is unknown how many album sales the two will lose due to heartbroken preteen boys and girls.
Donnas On Tour!
The alternative, pop punk rock, riot grrrl group the Donnas have announced new tour dates going until the end of November. Imagine the Ramones, but instead of weirdo looking guys they're really hot girls and you've got the Donnas! I'm hoping to make it to their November 17 show, so check out their new album and tour!
Well, that's pretty much it for the news today. Kid Rock and Tommy Lee are pissed off at each other. Tommy is just pissed at everybody after getting dropped from his label and losing Pamela Anderson somehow. A couple new columns and a bunch of album reviews are up or will be soon enough (including my award winning review of NIRVANA), so check everything at 411Music out, it's all good! We're always looking for people to review albums and music in general. Feel free to send me any feedback cause I need it to keep the depression away.
