Paul Banks solo album, Wilco news, Animal Collective boxset, pick your Flaming Lips set and more
The bit at the start
Good day to you all, once again I find myself pressed for time this week so lets get right to it.
Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.
The Stooges – Raw Power
Put quite simply this album kicks ass.
You news, you lose
What the fuck is going on with Wilco?
Ok, so last week we had the whole business with the new album from Wilco being called Wlco (The Album) and containing a song on it called "Wilco: The Song". This week we've got the cover to said opus maximus …
Things are getting so spinal tap right now I fear for Glen Kotche's life.
In other Wilco related news ex member Jay Bennet is suing the band and Jeff Tweedy over what he claims are $50,000 of unpaid royalties arising from the music he worked on while in the band from 1994-2001 as well as for appearing in the rather excellent 2002 documentary "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart." According to the Chicago Tribune Bennet claims that Tweedy "never obtained the necessary releases for the use of Bennett's performance in the film."
Tweedy is quite dismissive of the suit and via his publicist told Paste, "I know exactly as much as everyone else does. I've read the news and I honestly have no idea what these claims are based on. It was such a long time ago. Aside from everything else, I'm being sued for not paying someone for appearing in a movie I didn't produce. Go figure. I am truly sad it has come to this. I am equally convinced, however, that I have done nothing wrong and that this will be handled fairly and swiftly."
Play me a song Wayne, play me a song.
The most intriguing thing about this summer's Pitchfork Music Festival is the "fans writer the setlist" nature of the Friday night whereby people that are going to it are able to vote on what songs will be played by Built To Spill, The Jesus Lizard, Yo La Tengo and Tortoise; all of whom are playing that night.
So impressed with the idea were the Flaming Lips who are headlining the Sunday night of the event that they are now getting in on the fun too. Wayne Coyne said that the band, "will do their best to accommodate the wildest and most obscure of request-- covers included".
Considering the two band's recent history the campaign to get an Arcade Fire song into the setlist starts here.
Animal Collective live vinyl rarities box set.
On sale here now. Limited to 1,000 copies. No plans for a CD release.
And at $92 perhaps a little but on the dear side for me.
