More Radiohead reissues, ATP 10th anniversary festival, new music from Islands, Dodos, Kyp Malone, Ty Braxton and much more!
The bit at the start
Hello. I am, to quote that whiny bastard Morrissey, still ill.
So I'm going to get right to it.
Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.
The Warlocks – The Mirror Explodes
Gloomy California psychedelic rock. Yes, gloom and psyche work together.
You news, you lose
As almost ever anything Radiohead related gets the top slot.
Former home to Radiohead Capital/Parlophone are to continue with their reissue treatment of the albums that the band released while with them. On August 25th expanded versions of Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail To The Thief will hit the stores complete with B-Sides, live songs, studio sessions and a whole bunch of other stuff. The special collectors editions of the albums will also come with a DVD featuring music videos and TV performances.

09 Where I End and You Begin
No man is an Island.
If you were a fan of the dearly departed Montreal indie-pop trio The Unicorns then 2009 promises to be a good one for you. We've already had the fantastic self titled debut album from former guitarist Alden Penners new band Clues but also his ex bandmate Nick Thorburn is readying the third Islands album.
Vapours will be released on Anti on September 22nd and in extra special bonus good news for Unicorns fans former drummer Jamie Thompson who played on Islands' fantastic debut Return To The Sea but who left the band for their disappointing sophomore effort Arm's Way.
ATP is 10.
Normally there's only one December ATP in the UK each year but as 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the event (and not to mention the fact that the already announced MBV curated one is virtually sold out) the ATP organisers have announced a second weekend's events.
The Ten Years Of ATP Festival sees appearances from some of the festival's former curators and bands signed to the ATP recordings label. Already announced are Explosions in the Sky, Deerhoof, Shellac, Dirty Three, Tortoise, Melvins, the For Carnation, Papa M, Fuck Buttons, the Drones, Sleepy Sun, Bardo Pond, and Mudhoney. It's an impressive initial list and seeing as I've already paid to go to the My Bloody Valentine weekender I hope they're not planning on siphoning off all of the good bands for this.
Ten Years Of ATP takes place at Butlins, Minehead from December 11-13.
TV On the Solo Album.
Anti (we're talking them a lot, well, twice, today) are to release the first solo album by impressively Afro'd and bearded TV On The Radio guitarist and vocalist Kyp Malone which he's releasing under the Rain Machine monikor.
As per the press release, "I've been writing and recording songs alone since I moved to NYC in 2000, at first alone because I didn't know anyone, then through the years by choice because of a particular freedom that going it alone afforded. I've played regularly since then, at first under the name Black Lights until some kids in Texas told me they were already using that name. Then under my own name, but I didn't like how 'Kyp Malone' looked on mock ups of T-shirts and fliers, thus Rain Machine." Malone also described the album as being, "A nearly full spectrum of frequencies audible to the human ear-- a reflection of a variety of emotions and situations real and imagined, some rhythm and some rhyme," which doesn't make it sound all that fun.
The album was made with Lucinda Williams producer Ian Brennan.
Yay!!!
One of my favourite albums of last year was The Dodos' Visiter and I'm delighted to learn that Meric Long, Logan Kroeber and new member electric vibraphonist Keaton Snyder will soon release the follow up to it.
Time to Die will be out on FrenchKiss (who are slowly building up a very impressive roster of bands) on September 15th and was recorded by Phil Ek who's previous credits includes Fleet Foxes and The Shins.
Tracklisting:
01 Small Deaths
02 Longform
03 Fables
04 The Strums
05 This Is a Business
06 Two Medicines
07 Troll Nacht
08 Acorn Factory
09 Time to Die
According to Long, "The album sounds more like a band."
More solo albums.
The Central Market is the newest solo album by Tyondai Braxton of Battles and his first since 2002's History That Has No Effect.
It will be out on Warp on September 15th in North America and the day before in the UK.
That's about it.
