Rock News For All You Newbs

Lynyrd Skynyrd will release their upcoming new album God & Guns on September 29. The band considers the album to be "a tribute to the past and to the future of this band, too," according to frontman Johnny Van Zant. The record was recorded with producer Bob Marlette (Seether, Shinedown).

Chris Cornell said recently that the members of Soungarden had been in contact, but not in regards to a reunion:

"The only thing that we have talked about is trying to put together an album of B sides and maybe a box set with some unreleased tracks we have," Cornell says. "This is something we first talked about 10 years ago. We all feel it's time to do that, and we have a lot of fans out there, and we have a lot of new fans discovering our music, and I think the catalog and the legacy of the band has been ignored by the record label and previous management, so we decided to get together, and start working towards putting something like that out."

"We did so many B sides, and we were always miffed by the concept that the largest part of our audience was in the U.S., and yet, we were always churning out B sides for other territories, so they would buy the local release instead of the import. That's what I am the most excited about, to get that collection out so everyone knows it's there and has access to it. I think a box set would be good, too."

Soundgarden released the compilation A-Sides in 1997, the same year they broke up. A companion album, B-Sides, was planned but never released.

As for a reunion:

"I've always said nothing is impossible. I never wanted to be one of those people who tries to predict the future. I don't want to know what I will be doing two years, five years from now. I want to be open to anything, but nothing has changed in terms of our attitude toward it. It takes somebody to really stand up and say, ‘We should do this, we have to go do this, let's go do this,' and so far, no one has raised their hand to do that. Still, it's not impossible."

Slipknot will reissue their 1999 self-titled major label debut on September 9 to celebrate the album's 10th anniversary. No details about bonus material have been made available yet.

Maroon 5 announced that they are working on their follow up to 2007's It Won't Be Soon Before Long which will be produced by legendary producer Mutt Lange (Nickelback, AC/DC). A projected release date has not been revealed.

Atreyu is aiming for an October release for their new album which they are now about 90% done recording. The group are working on the outing with producer Bob Marlette (Ill Nino, Saliva). A title and track listing for the opus will be announced shortly.

Gene Simmons has revealed the titles of three songs for KISS's first album in 11 years:

"Russian Roulette"
"Modern Day Delilah"
"Stand"

Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons produced the album and said that there will be "no strings, no keyboards, no synths, no tambourines, no nothing - just meat and potatoes." It is expected to be released this fall. The band will also tour North America at the end of the summer.

I distinctly remember him saying that he was never going to release new material. Guess his bankroll is running low...From the November 26, 2007 release of All You Cannot Live Without:

Kiss front-man Gene Simmons has blasted Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead for seeking different business models to sell their music, blaming them for being a large part of the decline of the music industry. "The record industry doesn't have a f*cking clue how to make money," Simmons told Billboard. "I open a store and say 'Come on in and pay whatever you want.' Are you on f*cking crack? Do you really believe that's a business model that works?" Simmons also stated that he doesn't plan on making a new Kiss album because he doesn't know how he'll get paid for it if people expect to get music for free. He also went on to rant against illegal file sharing college students too. "Every little college kid, every freshly-scrubbed little kid's face should have been sued off the face of the earth. They should have taken their houses and cars and nipped it right there in the beginning." But I don't have a house or a car! Come take my virginity, RIAA!

I still don't have a house OR a car. Hahahaha.

Gene Simmons can take his long tongue and flick it against my frenulum.

Along the lines of Kiss....Ace Frehley drops "Anomoly", his first solo in 20 years, on Sept. 15. Good cover of Sweet's "Fox on the Run", 4 instrumentals and several good new originals.
