Rock News For All You Newbs
Rob Zombie is plotting a November 17 release for his new album Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls And The Systematic Dehumanization Of Cool. Zombie chosen the track "What?" to serve as the first single from the album. The track will impact at radio on October 6 and a video for it is said to be in the works.
Alter Bridge delayed the release of their upcoming live DVD, Alter Bridge - Live in Amsterdam, to an unspecified date due to "legal issues" with their former record label, Wind-Up Records, and their new label, Universal Records.
Between The Buried And Me plan to play their entire new album The Great Misdirect at their October 31 live performance at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. Glass Casket, Braveyoung and Torchrunner will handle the opening duties for the show. In other news, the band revealed that they will be embarking on a full U.S. tour in January as well as a full world tour soon afterward. Details will be revealed in the coming weeks. The Great Misdirect is slated to see an October 27 release.
Former Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen will be teaming up with guitarist Mark Thwaite (Mission UK, Peter Murphy, etc.) for an as-yet untitled new Christmas themed track that will be digitally released on November 26. A stream of the track will be made available on October 20 to celebrate the memory of Paul Raven, the former Ministry/Prong/Killing Joke, etc. bassist who passed away on the same date in 2007.
30 Seconds To Mars delayed the release of their upcoming new album This is War from November 24 to December 8.
As I Lay Dying checked in with the following update on their progress for their next album: "Songwriting has been going well with about 6-7 songs done. We decided to officially start recording the new AILD album on Oct 17. At that point we'll record as many songs as we can and then finish the album around the new year. I think this will be a good way to spread out our songwriting since most of our previous records have always been written within a few months."
Sadly, Original Candiria guitarist Chris Puma passed away on September 20. The cause of death was not revealed, though the band issued the following statement on the matter:
"Chris Puma died on September 20th 2009. The cause is not known to us, as his family did not speak of it. He leaves behind two children, 3 year old Aislinn A'marie and a 4 month old Aidan Todd. Chris was a great friend to the founding members of the band, and a respected musician among his friends and peers. He was a kind and gentle person and he will be missed."
Puma played with the band from 1992 to 1997.
The Company Band's (Clutch, CKY, Fireball Ministry, Fu Manchu) new digital single "It's A Confusing World" has now been made available for purchase through all major digital music outlets. Butch Walker will release his new album I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart sometime early next year.
War From A Harlots Mouth plans to spend the next few months writing new material for their next album while also playing a few shows here and there. A new song will be made available online in October, while the band also revealed that they will be touring Europe and the UK in February 2010 with Arsonists Get All The Girls, Salt The Wound and A Plea For Purging.
3 Inches Of Blood commented on the recent passing of their former bassist Brian Redman, who was killed in a car accident in Tacoma, WA, on September 26. Their statement reads as follows: "We are shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of our friend and former band mate Brian Redman. Brian was a outgoing and charismatic person who was great friends with most people he met. We couldn't help but smile or laugh when he was around. He had such a likable personality but also had a knack for putting serious things into perspective. While in the band Brian played a big part. He joined the band shortly after signing a big record deal, and endured the turmoil that followed after recording our "Advance and Vanquish" album. For a time the bands future was uncertain, but Brian was unwavering in his desire to play this music with us. He was loved by many and enjoyed life to the fullest. Goodbye Brian, our fallen brother. You will be greatly missed."
Sevendust wrapped up demoing new material for their next album with Corey Lowery behind the boards and are moving ahead with plans to begin officially recording the outing with producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Stained) at the helm. A spring release date is being planned.

The band features Yorke, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, longtime production collaborators Nigel Godrich and Joey Waronker and multi-instrumentalist Mauro Refosco. Yorke plans to play two live shows with them on October 4 and 5 at Los Angeles' Orpheum Theatre, with support from local band Lucky Dragons. About the band's possible name and length of the sets they plan on playing, Yorke also posted, "We don't really have a name and the set will not be very long cuz .. well .. we haven't got that much material yet!"

Killswitch Engage was forced to postpone their South American tour as a result of Howard Jones suffering from Gallstones. The group issued the following statement:
"Killswitch Engage will unfortunately have to postpone their upcoming South America tour due to the illness of lead singer Howard Jones. Howard is currently bed-ridden with a gall stone issue and has been told by his doctor that he should not leave his bed until further notice. He is currently getting proper medical care and hopes to be on his feet and in less pain by the end of the week, at which time we will determine how soon we can reschedule these South America dates. Killswitch would like to apologize to their fans in South America for this set back and want to assure them that the band has every intention to make up these dates in the near future.
Killswitch would also like to thank Marcos Suarez from Liberation Music Company as well as all the other South America promoters who helped to put this tour together: El Cambio Music / Volumen 4 (Argentina), BTS Producciones / The Knife (Chile), Alarma Producciones (Ecuador), Inmigrant Music (Colombia). We definitely appreciate all of your hard work and we will be sure to let Marcos know as soon as we have new dates to come to South America with his help. Thanks, KsE"

Skinlab dropped off of the "Sons Of A Sik World Tour" as a result of illness in their camp: "I went to the hospital last night after dealing with chest and lung pains for the last 2 weeks on tour. I thought it was just a cold and something that would pass but before the show in ....Herkamir.., ..NJ....I decided to take myself to the Cooperstown Emergency Room. I was told my condition was a severe lung infection that my body has not been able to fight, due to the tour schedule we've been dealing with and the nonstop lifestyle that I live just trying to make things happen for the band and so I can tour. Bottom line is the doctors have told me I've pushed myself to the limit and was lucky enough to get treatment before this turned into full blown Pneumonia. Having been told that I am completely bummed to announce that we are going to be cancelling the remaining dates on the Sons of a Sik World tour. This is the first tour that I have personally cancelled due to any weakness and feel it's best as I am just not representing Skinlab to its fullest. With the dates currently being considered for make up , we will keep everyone informed of our tour schedule and future plans as were all on our way home to rest up. Huge thanks to our new metal brothers in Darksun, Sik World Clothing for sponsoring the tour, and all the promoters and fans who have stood by us! We will be launching a new contest with Revolver Magazine and a prize pack from Peavey this month, so watch out for that, and we will be adding new merch designs to our online store. Skinlab"

Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan disappeared for a few days in Vega. Kind of right out of The Hangover, only on the heels of a release of their new album Was Is The Answer. Luckily, he's alright, and this past week, he shed some light on his disappearance. When he was asked if this was a publicity stunt, the guitarist replied:
"For a PR stunt, I could think of a million better things than ‘woohoo, rock musician gets s**tfaced in Vegas and disappears for few days.' I would definitely prefer to go with the ‘let's shoot a cow with a bazooka'."
That would be fucking sweet. But, I'm pretty sure shooting a member of PETA with a bazooka would be much more entertaining. More:
"I'm not going to say the party did not get out of hand a little bit, but for ****'s sake, I felt like celebrating our new record coming out finally and my cell phone ended up taking a dip in a swimming pool somewhere so I was off the grid for a couple of days. It was a raw weekend, and a lot of stupid stuff fits in 48 hours in Vegas. When I called my manager, he was like, ‘****, dude, half of the country is looking for you. I thought it was just a figure of speech, [but] apparently it wasn't — it was bizarre." Yeah, about as bizarre and coincidental as you can get, I suppose. Anyway, you can check out the complete interview at this location.
War is the Answer is out now and is clearly one of the best albums this year. I CHALLENGE ANYONE TO SAY OTHERWISE!
Oh, yeah. I'm resigning this column, in case you missed it last week, at the end of the year. You can read it here and get all misty-eyed about it like me.
Oh I thought last week was your last. End of the year sounds cool, I can hold off till then! Man, the end of this year is gonna be awesome! Concerts galore: ATR & TDWP co-headlining!!! BTBAM (1st experience with them)!!!
