Rock News For All You Newbs

Amazon.com is listing a November 23 release for Them Crooked Vultures' upcoming debut album overseas. The effort, the title for which has yet to be announced, will probably see a November 24 release. In case you've been living under a musical rock, Them Crooked Vultures features John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.

Slayer posted a trailer for the 20 minute feature "Playing With Dolls":

"Playing With Dolls", in addition to being a song featured on the band's new album, World Painted Blood, is a bonus video graphic novel that will appear on the DVD included in the Deluxe Edition. The soundtrack for the short film is comprised of all eleven songs featured on the album, as well as a non-album b-side dubbed "Atrocity Vendor". The "Playing With Dolls" featurette is described as follows:

"No mere music video, Playing with Dolls is a stark, 12-part nightmare that breathes corrupt life into Slayer's latest syllabus of stalkers, psychopaths and serial killers, merging their aberrant psyches into the supremely focused desire of a single, merciless malcontent. A methodical distillation of one man's lethal frenzy, the film follows the gruesome outbursts of a nameless protagonist. He is not an indiscriminate murder junkie, but rather a highly creative snuff-artist with a deeply personal sense of purpose - a man for whom murder is the only conceivable way forward. With a black heart hardened by tragedy, he chooses his victims carefully. His methods are as grisly and varied as they are poetic."

World Painted Blood will land in stores in both standard and deluxe editions on November 3.

Korn frontman Jonathan Davis recently talked about the band's new album. You can see what he had to say about the outing here. Sessions for the effort, which are currently without a label, have been underway for some time with producer Ross Robinson (Slipknot, Glassjaw) at the helm. Also, Korn's cover of Cameo's "Word Up!" is among the tracks set to be featured in the upcoming multiplatform "Lego Rock Band" videogame. A full track listing for the game can be found here.
~***~

Rob Zombie's upcoming new album Hellbilly Deluxe 2 - Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls And The Systematic Dehumanization Of Cool was bumped back to an undetermined 2010 release. More on that is expected soon.
~***~

Lo-Pro is preparing to release a new EP entitled Letting Go digitally on October 21. For now, various tracks from the outing can be heard online here. In addition, the band has been tracking their new album, tentatively titled The Beautiful Sounds Of Revenge as of late for a future release.
~***~

Hawthorne Heights will release their Wind-Up Records debut Skeletons sometime early 2010.
~***~

Flaw is in the studio working on their next album. Whoo! Best news all week.
~***~

SOiL revealed the track list for their upcoming new album Picture Perfect, due out October 20:

1. "Tear it Down"
2. "Lesser Man"
3. "Like It Is"
4. "Picture Perfect"
5. "Surrounded"
6. "Wasted"
7. "Every Moment"
8. "Anymore"
9. "Falter"
10. "Too Far Away"
11. "Calling Out"
12. "Temptation"
13. "Last Wish"

Will Haven is rejoined by original frontman Grady Avenell. Despite Avenell's return though, the band will also still be involving his previous replacement, Jeff Jaworski. That sounds kind of awkward to me. That's like dating a girl, and then saying you're going to date your ex, as well, hoping for both of them to bang you at the same time. Official word on the matter from the band can be found below:

"After a little time off and doing a few benefit shows for our brother Chi Cheng of the Deftones, we are back to work. As some of you may have seen Grady did join us for a few of the benefit shows we did for Chi and also an amazing show in San Francisco a few months ago. After those shows we had a few dicussions about will havens future and Grady expressed that he would like to be a part of it. So after working out details I am very happy to say that we are currently working on a new record with Grady handling the vocal duties. Jeff Jaworski will still be a big part of the band and helping with the writting process on the new record. So we are more than excited to be all working together on making an amazing record.

We have been demoing a few songs and I can say that I could not be happier. We will continue to keep everyone up to date on when we expect to have a record out, hopefully in January next year or earlier. We may do one or two shows while we are working on the record so we will post them up when we figure out when and where; definately look for us to be in the Los Angeles area soon. That will most likely mark our first 'official' show with Grady. So we are more than excited to have Grady back with us, the time away has done him good because he is back with more rage than ever."

Later this month EA will be releasing the wildly popular video game "Rock Band" to the iPhone. I'm not sure why, but…..The initial track list will include the following among others:

30 Seconds To Mars - "Attack"

All American Rejects - "Move Along"
Beastie Boys - "Sabotage"
Blink-182 - "All The Small Things"
Foo Fighters - "Learn To Fly"
Foo Fighters - "Everlong"
Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Simple Man"
Motorhead - "Ace of Spades ‘08″
Pixies - "Debaser"
Presidents of The United States of America - "Ladybug"
Rise Against - "Give It All"
Silversun Pickups - "Lazy Eye"
Smashing Pumpkins - "Cherub Rock"

Rammstein is planning a special edition release of their new album Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da. The special edition, which will see a release in the coming weeks following the album's intended October 20 release, will come packaged in a flight case with the album itself along with "six sex toys (numerically corresponding to the number of band members), handcuffs and lubricant." Awesome.
~***~

Yakuza is set to begin recording their new album Of Seismic Consequence on November 19. Sessions for the outing will take place at both Electrical Audio and Semaphore Studios in Chicago, IL with producer Sanford Parker (Pelican, Minsk). The group plans to release the effort in April 2010. In other news, the band has begun mapping out their touring plans and will be heading to Europe in April 2010, while North American dates are also being put together.
~***~

Cake announced that they plan to release their first album in six years sometime in the Spring of 2010.
~***~

Sevendust re-launched their website at www.sevendust.com. The new site features a number of video updates from the ongoing studio sessions for the band's next album in Chicago, IL with producer Johnny K. (Disturbed, Machine Head.
~***~

Fear Factory is planning to release their upcoming new album Mechanized sometime in February 2010. The band has been through quite a bit of drama over the past few months, with the legal battle over the use of the name being the center of the debate. So, I wouldn't be too surprised if this gets bumped to sometime in April of 2000-Never.
~***~

Lifehouse will release their new album Smoke & Mirrors on December 8. The first single "Halfway Gone" will impact rock radio on October 27.
~***~

Abigail Williams will be issuing a limited edition version of their latest album In The Shadow Of A Thousand Suns on January 12. The deluxe edition CD version of the outing will sport the following five previously unreleased tracks:

"I Am (God)"
"In Death Comes The Great Silence"
"Infernal Divide"
"Waiting For The Rain"
"Floods" (demo)

Band vocalist/guitarist Sorceron had the following to say about the aforementioned songs:

"the first song, 'I Am (God)' is a new song that signifies the first collaboration between new keyboard player Alana and myself. 'In Death Comes the Great Silence' reveals a new direction that the band has been working towards over the last year while 'Infernal Divide' is another new song that once again redefines that ABIGAIL WILLIAMS sound. This track was recorded quite raw and has a strong black metal influence. 'Waiting for the Rain' is a somber interlude we have been using a bit during live shows and the last track is the demo version of 'Floods.' I felt it was important to include this track because it captures the vibe of the song better than the album track; perhaps due to the work of original drummer Zack Gibson."

Also featured on the deluxe edition will be the band's video for their track "Into The Ashes". A vinyl version of the album limited to 1000 copies will also be released on January 12 as well.
~***~

Mnemic recently checked in with an update from the studio where they are currently recording their new album Sons Of The System with producer Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Behemoth). In the update the band revealed a number of tentative track titles for the effort:

"Orbiting"
"Climbing Towards Stars"
"Dreamjunkie"
"The Erasing"
"March Of The Tripods"
"Diesel Uterus"
~***~

God Forbid released their cover of Muse's "Stockholm Syndrome" as a single through iTunes. The song was originally tracked as a b-side during the recording sessions for the group's latest effort, Earthsblood.
~***~

Fan-filmed live footage of the Deftones performing their new track "Rocket Skates" in Portland, OR earlier this week has been made available online here. The song is expected to appear on the band's next album, which they have wrapped up recording and now hope to have out early next year. No word yet on what the band plans to do with their previously completed and subsequently shelved album Eros.

In other news, Deftones bassist Chi Cheng continues to make progress with his recovery following a car crash last November that left him in a coma with a variety of other medical complications having cropped up in the time since. Cheng has since been moved out of the hospital and is now at home recovering under direct medical supervision, undergoing basic physical therapy and has begun to try to form words, while also responding to questions by blinking his eyes. Given the nature of his medical bills, more donations are currently being sought for his ongoing care. Those interested in helping out can do so at www.oneloveforchi.com. For the time being, the band has recruited bassist Sergio Vega (ex-Quicksand) to fill in for him.

~***~

The track list for the upcoming NCIS: Soundtrack - VOL. 2 has been revealed and features a new song from Sick Puppies titled "That Time of the Year", while Saosin are contributing a new song titled "Move Slow". The record hits stores on November 3.
~***~

Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster is in the studio as of late recording a new entrance theme dubbed "Crank The Walls Down" for WWE wrestling tag team champions Big Show and Chris Jericho. In other news, the band's track "Step Up (I'm On It)" is being used as the official theme song for the upcoming WWE pay per view event "Bragging Rights". It is also featured in the commercial, with Jon Cena et. al, for the upcoming "WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2010" videogame, which will see a release on October 20.

Maynard James Keenan of Tool/Puscifer fame has been hinting in recent interviews that A Perfect Circle may reconvene next year to work on new material and presumably tour in support of it. As featured in Fact or Fiction this week, you can download the full interview here.
~***~

In other MJK news, Puscifer is prepping a new EP entitled C is for (Insert Sophomoric Genitalia Reference HERE) on November 10. The outing will feature the following track listing:

HOw many "Greatest Hits" album can one washed up band, who haven't done anything new or noteworthy, have? I think Motley Crue can take this 5th or 6th compilation and shove it up their poser asses.

Man it sucks that one of my favorite bands, Skindred, are skipping Kansas City. As I would to see them play "Shark Bites & Dog Fights" material live.
