The bit at the start
…
Umm.

Hi
Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.
Velvet Underground – Velvet Underground.
Often overlooked but still a fantastic album.
You news, you lose
Go down under for your Gold Soundz, but it's just a one time thing.
Okay, it's finally confirmed, the start date for the Pavement reunion.
March 1st 2010.
In Auckland, New Zealand of all places.
In fact the first seven dates of the reunion tour will take place down under to coincide with the Antipodean festival season. The band will play the Gold Plains festival as well as 6 other dates over the course of two weeks. Tickets for all gigs bar the festival date went on sale last Friday and the itinerary for the trip looks like:
03-01 Auckland, New Zealand - Town Hall
03-04 Sydney, Australia - Enmore Theatre
03-06 Meredith, Australia - Supernatural Amphitheatre (Golden Plains Festival)
03-07 Adelaide, Australia - Thebarton Theatre
03-08 Perth, Australia - Metro City
03-10 Brisbane, Australia - Tivoli
03-12 Melbourne, Australia - Palace Theatre
You should also note that if you'd like to see Pavement play again then perhaps the only opportunity you have to do it will be next year. In an interview with The Quietus recently Bob Nastanovich backed up what was said in the original reunion press release ("This tour is not a prelude to additional jaunts and/or a permanent reunion.") by answering a question about whether or not the tour would see any new material played with a simple and definitive "no".
Talking about how the tour came about Nastanovich said "Did it take a lot of prolonged dialogue and intense meetings fueled by whisky drinking? No, our longtime U.S. booking agent Boche had dinner with Stephen [Malkmus] in Chicago this summer and they agreed to work on Pavement in 2010. The rest of us have always been willing."

On a related note the Spiral Stairs debut album The Real Feel is out today. Here's the video to "Stolen Pills" from it.
Why it pays to be on Twitter sometimes.
Last week Twitter had the scoop on Jay Reatard's band quitting on him and this week it reveals that Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy) might just be supremely enthusiastic about the upcoming third Arcade Fire record.
On Sunday night he tweeted: "Can't contain it. I just completed 10 days on the best album I've ever had the pleasure of working on."
Ten days prior to that he wrote: "Arcade Fire have some pretty gorgeous microphones right here. It'd be so easy to slip one into my bag."
Okay, so maybe it's conjecture and putting 2 and 2 together. But it's very likely that he's talking about the Arcade Fire album #3. Pallett has previously done the string arrangements for AF's first two albums so and if they're at the point of doing string arrangements one would think that they're very close to nearing an end point for the record. Early-mid year release in 2010 perhaps?
Very exciting anyway.

Squirming like an Eel
There's a lot to be said for having a home studio, not least the fact that you're able to come up with ideas and record them in an ultra quick manner. Like Mark Everett (or E) has done with his upcoming new album End Times which is due in January less than a year after the last one. Most of the 14 songs on it were recorded in E's basement studio and this is the shortest period between albums in the career of The Eels.
