The Deftones is now plotting a tentative February release date for their new album. Further details are expected in the coming months.

***~***

Metal Blade will be reissuing Gwar's 1992 outing America Must Be Destroyed on November 10. The new version of the outing will be packaged with a bonus DVD which will feature the group's Phallus In Wonderland film and their live video outing "Tour De Scum".

***~***

Rosetta will begin recording their as-yet untitled new full-length album in a month's time America Must Be Destroyed) handling the engineering duties. The group will be overseeing the production themselves, while Schneider will also help out with the mixing of the outing in December. Beyond that, the band also has a new split with Restorations in the works for a 2010 release.

Chimaira revealed that they will once again be enlisting the services of Daath guitarist Emil Werstler, this time to fill in for bassist Jim LaMarca, who will be missing the October 29 - November 1 stops of the band's upcoming tour with Trivium, Whitechapel and Dirge Within. LaMarca will be missing the first few stops of the trek as the result of his upcoming honeymoon.

Chimaira had previously tapped Werstler to fill in for guitarist Matt DeVries, who had to temporarily step down to attend to the birth of his son, during their most recent European tour. In other news, rumors have begun to circulate that the band will be included on the previously revealed Pantera tribute effort being put together by an as-yet undisclosed U.K. metal magazine. Band frontman Mark Hunter recently posted on his Twitter account that they were entering the studio to begin tracking a song. Soon after, lyrics to the Pantera classic "Slaughtered" were posted on Chimaira's official Twitter account, leading some to speculate that the band may be covering the aforementioned track for the compilation. At present, only Machine Head is also heavily rumored to appear on the effort, with the band having recently tracked a cover of "Fucking Hostile".

Mastodon bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders recently spoke with "Paste" regarding the bands involvement for scoring the upcoming film adaptation of the comic book series "Jonah Hex". Among other things, he says:

"I guarantee an incredibly popular misconception will be, ‘Oh my god, they're selling out doing a fucking comic-book movie. They probably got a huge paycheck and don't give a shit about integrity,'" Sanders continued. "The fact is the exact opposite. We sacrificed another two weeks away from home to give away an album's worth of material for nothing in return but satisfaction in being a part of something incredible."

...

Regardless of the style, Sanders said, Mastodon will proudly stand behind the score. "We create music from the heart, period," he said. "Whether it's playing at a nine-year-old's birthday party or a sold out arena with Metallica, we don't care. It's always pure, it's always authentic. We all high five at the end of the day; that's why we do what we do."

Read more of the interview and what to expect from the score here.

As previously reported, the film itself is the big screen adaptation of the titular comic book series and stars Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, John Malkovich and more. In addition to scoring the film, it has been revealed that Mastodon guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds will also make a cameo in the movie, which is set for a June 18th, 2010 release date.

Warning: Touring Updates May Lead To Spontaneous Moshing

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine recently checked in with an update and addressed the long running rumors of a potential tour with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax:

"There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of a Big Four Tour and while I find the timing peculiar, the opportunity is a once in a lifetime opportunity, because we all are really so very different now, and the chances of this happening are probably not going to come around again in the future; due to personal plans, new ventures, and the inevitable passing of torches to the next generation in each of our respective genres (or the sub-genres that were created).

While there is nothing to say at this point, if it happens, when it happens we, as well as my other three fellow horsemen, will let you know."

Blue October canceled their current "Pick up the Phone" tour due to the hospitalization of the band's lead singer Justin Furstenfeld, who was also the spokesperson for the tour. Furstenfeld is being treated for suffering from an extreme mental anxiety attack. His doctors have ordered that the tour—which was committed to reducing the stigma associated with mental health, depression, and suicide—be canceled to allow for his recovery.

"Mental health diseases are unpredictable," says Furstenfeld. "And on the eve of this tour in support of a cause that means the world to me, I am in need of time to heal from a setback in my own personal life, which is severe enough for me to seek hospitalization. I hope that my action to seek the strength and safety of treatment will inspire others that are suffering to do the same."

The "Pick Up The Phone Tour" was to benefit suicide prevention and was created through a partnership between the non-profit organizations To Write Love on Her Arms, Postsecret.com, Synclive.com, and 1-800-SUICIDE—The National Hopeline Network.

The Estate of Bradley Nowell, Sublime's late singer, guitarist and primary songwriter, issued a press release this past week aboutr the use of the band's name by bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Floyd "Bud" Gaugh. Gaugh and Wilson, along with new vocalist Rome Ramirez, who performed with Gaugh and Wilson earlier this year, were scheduled to perform under the name "Sublime" this past Saturday at Cypress Hill's 2009 Smokeout Festival.  Sublime, with its original members, has not played together since their final performance with Nowell on May 24, 1996.

The advertising and promotion of the new group as "Sublime" has been done without the consent of the Estate of the late Bradley Nowell (consisting of widow Troy Nowell, father Jim "Papa" Nowell, and son Jakob Nowell).  The Estate intends to take appropriate legal action to protect Brad's intentions, as well as the legacy and integrity of his body of work. Nowell's family released the following statement on the band's official Web site today:

"It was recently announced that Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and Sublime drummer Floyd ‘Bud' Gaugh are ‘reuniting' and teaming with singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez in a band they intend to call ‘Sublime.' Prior to his untimely passing, both Bud and Eric acknowledged that Brad Nowell was the sole owner of the name Sublime. It was Brad's expressed intention that no one use the name Sublime in any group that did not include him, and Brad even registered the trademark ‘Sublime' under his own name.

As Brad's heirs, and with the support of his entire family, we only want to respect his wishes and therefore have not consented to Bud and Eric calling their new project ‘Sublime.' We have always supported Bud and Eric's musical endeavors and their desire to continue to play Sublime's music. We wholeheartedly supported Bud, Eric and the many talented members of the Sublime posse that formed the Long Beach Dub All-Stars, soon after Brad's death, to honor him through their original recordings, live performances and Sublime music until they disbanded in 2001. But, out of respect for Brad's wishes, we have always refused to endorse any group performing as ‘Sublime,' and now with great reluctance feel compelled to take the appropriate legal action to protect Brad's legacy.

Our hope is that Brad's ex-bandmates will respect his wishes and find a new name to perform under, so as to enhance the ‘Sublime' legacy without the confusion and disappointment that many fans have expressed upon seeing the announcement.

Peace and Love to all,

Troy, Jakob & Jim ‘Papa' Nowell."

Ahhh Sublime.... one of the most overrated bands of all time.

Sublime sucks ass, they are even worth mentiong why???

If your over 25 and still smoke weed, its cool as long as you also live a productive live. If your over 25, and still think sublime is anything particulalry awesome, you need to grow up. and probably put down the weed.

In response to the weed comment, I'm 23, still smoke weed, go to college, save money to move out, so when I'm 25 the nightly weed smoking will probably continue. I don't think Sublime is an elite band or anything, but they did write some damn good songs, even if for every great song there was a throwaway. If nothing else, they are up to this point, at least in my opinion, the greatest example of mixing punk and reggae together. So at least they are genre benders, especially if you consider dub a genre, which I don't.
