The bit at the start
You would think that life as a touring musician would be pretty great but occasionally the curtain gets pulled back a little and you get a glimpse of the officious bullshit that people who travel a lot for work have to put up with.
No Age were due to play in Dublin on Saturday night but late in the afternoon it was announced that due to travel problems the band weren't going to be able to make the gig. As it happened the band were due to play an all ages show the next day and an alternate venue for the late gig was found on Sunday which led to a busy day for the pair. Dean Spunt explained the frankly quite absurd reason for the delay during the second gig.
Some Ryanair (low cost European airline, think Southwest more than JetBlue, they have a reputation for being cunts) asshole in Norway wouldn't let Dean bring on two pieces of hand luggage onto the flight. Okay, that's the rules with Ryanair but there was a simple obvious solution to the problem to be reached. But then the guy then refused to let him check in the second bag. I know, what the fuck.
Anyway, the gig when it happened was fantastic, I fucking love that band.
Afterwards Randy caught me eyeing up his board and came over to take me through the whole setup. Nice dude.
Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.
The Glands – The Glands.
A distillation of many well chosen mid-90's influences.
You news, you lose
Get well soon you miserable fuck.
Morrissey collapsed on stage in Swindon in England on Saturday night. According to the BBC Mozza collapsed early on in the gig due to "breathing difficulties" and was helped offstage by members of his band before he was rushed to hospital in an Ambulance where he was held overnight as a "precautionary measure".
As well as that last night's gig in Bournemouth was cancelled but at the moment tonight's one in London's Royal Albert Hall is still scheduled to go ahead. (In other words, fuck you provincial people).
There'll be Pavement news in this column until there stops being Pavement news, tough shit.
The first round of bands (aside from the curators) for Pavement's ATP next May were announced last week and it's looking like it's going to be a good one with German nutcases Faust, The Fall, Quasi, Endless Boogie and Enables already announced. ATP takes place between May 14-16.
Earlier that week the band will play 3 nights in London's Brixton Academy starting on the 11th there are some tickets still available for that.
Oh and also tonight though it hasn't been confirmed rumours started cropping up about them possible playing Dublin's Button Factory on the 8th.

According to The Quietus starting January 10th 2010 Jarvis Cocker will host the 3:30 – 5:30 slot on the BBC 6 Music digital radio station. In an interview with The Beeb he said "Sunday doesn't feel that different to the other days of the week anymore. Although there was something weird about when everything seemed to stop on a Sunday, it kind of marked out the week. I am going to put the boringness back into Sunday. That's my mission. I'm very much looking forward to it. I think Sunday afternoon's have got a special atmosphere, and I will be doing something that I think is appropriate to that - or maybe inappropriate, I don't know!...It's a great honour to be working for the BBC, which I consider to be the greatest broadcaster in the world. It is my intention to fill these hours with as much dodgy opinion, crackpot theories, hare-brained schemes & beautiful, beautiful music as is humanly possible. I can't wait to get going."
This won't be Cocker's first foray into radio having previously acted as a guest editor of BBC 4's "Today" in December of last year.

Dark was the profitable night.
One of the undisputed musical highlights of the year was the Dark Was The Night compilation album in aid of the Red Hot organisation which was pulled together by The Dessner brothers of The National as well as the associated benefit in Radio City Music Hall.
Well yesterday 4AD, the label that put out the album reported that the album has to date raised £423,212 ($668,358) for AIDS research.
Which is nice.

Writing under the influence
Without which this column would not have been possible:
Talk Radio
St. Vincent – Actor.
The bit at the end
This week's episode of Mad Men is probably my favourite episode of it ever.
Reading "The Damed United" at the moment, great stuff.
Really good weekend of gigs coming up with Grouper, Handsome Furs and St. Vincent/Grizzly Bear all visiting Dublin.
The is the second to last column I'll be doing before I take off for a couple of weeks to New York, New Jersey and Toronto.
