Rock News For All You Newbs

We Are The Fallen signed with Universal Republic Records and expect to release their debut album sometime early 2010. In case you haven't heard, yet, the band features former Evanescence members Ben Moody, John LeCompt, and Rocky Gray, along with former American Idol vocalist, Carly Smithson. Here's a clip of their stuff:

The Deftones is planning a couple benefit concerts for their ailing bassist Chi Cheng this month. The group will perform at the Avalon in Hollywood, CA on November 19 and November 20 with more details to follow. All proceeds from the event will go to the Chi Ling Cheng Special Needs Trust, which has been setup to help cover the medical costs incurred by Cheng's accident in November 2008 and his ongoing recovery. A new album from the band is tentatively expected to see a release in February.

Three Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell and Kid Rock's guitarist Kenny Olson have teamed up with vocalist Jon Nicholson and drummer Shannon Boone to form 7dayBinge. The band will release their debut self-titled debut digitally on December 8 and a physical release on January 26. You can listen to two songs from the band on their Myspace. Check out the track list below:

1. "7dayBinge"
2. "Oak Tree"
3. "End of the Road"
4. "Free"
5. "I'm No Good"
6. "Coming Back Again"
7. "Cold Dark Grave"
8. "Good Times"

Rob Zombie inked a deal with Loud & Proud/Roadrunner for the release of his new album Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls And The Systematic Dehumanization Of Cool. The effort was most recently delayed from a release this month, and will now land in stores early next year. Speaking on the new deal with Loud & Proud/Roadrunner, Zombie had the following to say:

"Basically the label (Geffen) wasn't really in a position to promote it or deal with it. It was basically everything, from getting advance copies to the press to...There wasn't even time to make a video (for the first single, 'What?') and we were leaving for the tour. There was the sense that every little thing about the record was rushed -- not the music, 'cause that was done for a long time, and that was the thing that was so annoying. We spent so much time crafting the record; we didn't want it to be something that was so chaotic that it became, 'Oh, that's done and gone' two weeks later."

"It certainly wasn't an easy decision to make after all this time, but it had to be done. I love this new record and wanted to surround myself with an excited new group of people who can reignite my enthusiasm for working within a hard rock record label. Roadrunner seems to be the perfect place."

~~~ *** ~~~
Meshuggah is planning a February 9 North American release date for their new live DVD outing. The effort will also see a February 5 release in Europe. Further details on what to expect from the outing have yet to be revealed.
~~~ *** ~~~

Hail The Villain inked a deal with Roadrunner Records and will release their new album Population: Declining next year. The band also inked a deal with Warner Music for the Canadian territory. For now, those unfamiliar with the outfit can check them out here.

~~~ *** ~~~
Mastodon will be releasing a new digital EP for their song "Oblivion" through iTunes on November 3. The effort will feature the following track listing:
01 - "Oblivion"
02 - "Divinations" (Live at XFM)
03 - "The Bit" (Live at XFM)
04 - "Colony Of Birchmen" (Live at XFM)
05 - "Oblivion" (video)
06 - "Divinations" (video)
~~~ *** ~~~

Airbourne will release their upcoming new album No Guts, No Glory on February 23

~~~ *** ~~~
HELLYEAH confirmed that they are currently in the studio working on their next album which they plan to have out in stores next year. Further details were not revealed.
~~~ *** ~~~

Fuel front-man Toryn Green and members of A Farewell Fire formed a new band named For The Taking. You can listen to four songs from the band on their Myspace.

~~~ *** ~~~
Trivium's involvement with the upcoming "God Of War III" videogame has been elaborated on some more. The band recently revealed that they had been in the studio working on a new track inspired by the videogame. It was announced that an ultimate special edition version of the game will come with a God Of War: Blood And Metal EP. While full details have yet to be revealed, the EP, which will be released as a digital download alongside the game on the day of its release, is described as "a heavy metal homage featuring original music inspired by God Of War." No word yet on whether or not any other metal artists will be featured on the EP as well.
~~~ *** ~~~

Stone Temple Pilots announced that they will continue work on their upcoming new album with producer Don Was (Rolling Stones, Black Crowes) after their current tour ends in early 2010. The band is planning a release for sometime next year. Scott Weiland had this to say:

"When we get back [from tour], we're going to finish the album. Then, when we finish the album, there will be a big tour around its release and that will probably be a long tour."

dredg cancelled their plans to tour Australia later this year with Karnivool. The band offered the following statement on the matter:

The ever-famous Corey Taylor, vocal God behind Slipknot and Stone Sour confirmed recently that he had auditioned and was being considered as the front-man for Velvet Revolver after the departure of Scott Weiland.

So was Lenny Kravitz. So fucking what, right?

Taylor said:

"I had a meeting with those guys , we did some demos together, and it just didn't work — for whatever reason.

 "It was just really cool. It was one of those things where it's like I could have got to jam with legends, man, in my opinion. But, you know, it was cool, and I still know those guys, I still hang out with them, and I still have nothing but respect."

I can't say I'm heartbroken about this; I'm too busy looking forward to his solo release, sometime in the near future.
