Wake Up, Time To Rock 12.20.05: Episode IV
Posted by Tollah on 12.20.2005
Rock-It, NME's lists, and the T-interview with Eminem!
Sup T-Fanz? Are you pumped for Christmas?! The T-Meister sure is!! The only gay thing is that I have to work Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Christmas Eve I'm not too bothered about, but working New Years is gonna suck unless I finish nice and early.
Avril News
As everyone knows, Tollah is madly in love with his beloved future girlfriend, Avril Lavigne. She is the most beautiful girl ever and perfect in every way.
Avril's Bonez Tour 2005 Live at Budokan DVD will be released in a couple of weeks.

This was posted on Dec 3 so that means it should be out soon. It's about time! Unfortunately, I think it's only being released in Asia, but Amazon might have it or something.
Avril will be covering John Lennon's 'Imagine' for a forthcoming Amnesty International Lennon cover CD fundraiser. Avril worked on this cover with Chantal Kreviazuk and Butch Walker, and says her take on the song is a bit more "mellow" than the original.

This will obviously be the greatest cover of 'Imagine' ever. It's an overrated song anyway. Hopefully Avril will actually make it worth a damn! =)
Guns N' Roses News
Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum (ex-Guns N' Roses, The Cult) joined Aerosmith on stage on December 2 at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He performed "No More No More" with the band.
Velvet Revolver had recorded a cover version of this song and played it a few times during their 2004-2005 world tour.
Velvet Revolver finished touring in support of their 2004 debut album, "Contraband", this past summer with a handful of Ozzfest appearances. The group, who have a few East Coast gigs lined up in late December/early January, are expected to begin recording their sophomore effort shortly for release in 2006. "Contraband" has sold 1.83 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

That's cool. I'm down with that. Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland has unvealed to MTV.com that the band's second album will be concept.
"It's something I've been wanting to do since the last STP album, since the Shangri-La Dee Da album , and it never was completely realized," Weiland (formerly of Stone Temple Pilots) said. "You never know until you really completely get there, but it's going in that direction right now."
Weiland refused to reveal any details about the concept but said he and his bandmates have been writing for months.
"This album really has to make a statement," bassist Duff McKagan added. "We've toured for 18 months. Now we have a brand name. Now we know each other as a band. The first album was just us together at home, a spontaneous product. Now it's time to make that record."
There's no title or release date yet for the album, but McKagan said to expect it in spring.
Along with the follow-up to 2004's Contraband, Weiland is also working on the follow-up to his 1998 solo album, "12 Bar Blues", for which he has 25 songs written.
He intended to release the solo album a few years ago but joined Slash, McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner in Velvet Revolver instead.

This will either be really awesome or really lame. On the one hand there's Slash providing awesomeness, but on the other hand that Scott Weiland douchebag may fuck things up at any second. He's a real knob. I bet the concept is something to do with some bum with a drug addiction that lives on the streets. Weiland's such a turd.
The T-Reccomended Album of the Week: Sarah Blasko - The Overture & the Underscore
When I waffle on about the awesome up-and-coming Aussie music scene, one of the acts I'm on about is Sarah Blasko. This singer/songwriter has a penchant for writing dark, emotional, beautiful tunes and this 2004 release is full of them. The first two tracks aren't great in my opinion, but the rest is. Standout tracks are hit single 'Don't U Eva', the uplifting 'Always Worth It' and the sublime 'Perfect Now'. It doesn't hurt that she's absolutely gorgeous, either.
The Tollah Toplist
NME recently released it's yearly "CAN WE MAKE IT ANY MORE OBVIOUS THAT WE WRITE FOR HIGH SCHOOL KIDS AND ANYONE THAT IS OVER THE AGE OF 17 THAT READS US NEEDS TO GROW THE FUCK UP" Lists. The T-Interview: Eminem
Perhaps the biggest name artist in the world at the moment, Eminem has a chat with the T-Maestro!
Tollah: With the recent release of a Greatest Hits CD, you have to be pleased with how your career has gone. Do you have any regrets?
Eminem: Yo T-Bomber, what's your beef, nigga? Yo, you be dissin' me cos I'm a white rapper, y'all thinks I haven't heard that shit before? Get some new fucking material dogg. this motherfucking record's broke..
T: I didn't mention your skin colour, but I guess since you broached the subject that it is an achievement for a white rapper to be as successful as you have been and still be respected within the hip-hop community.
E: Dude. Not cool. Your beef is with me, not my daughter Haley, so leave her the fuck outta this or Imma have to lay some shit down. Y'all tryna battle rap Slim Shady?
T: Right. Since you decided to bring up your personal life, there are rumours that you're getting re-married to Kim?
E: You only get one chance
In this life
One opportunity to make a change
Will you take advantage of it
Or will you let is slip through your fingers
And pass you by
T: ...What are you doing?
E: I got flow like a schmo/

T: Uhh, right. Thanks for coming in.
E: There's more where that came from, bitches.
Rock-It
I was gonna put some big review of Rock-It here, but, quite frankly, it wasn't that great and I wasn't inspired to do so.
Wolfmother were good although crowd trouble shortened their set by 20 minutes.
Oasis were really good although I could hardly see them. Here's an approximate set list off the top of my head:
Fuckin' In The Bushes
Turn Up The Sun
Lyla
Bring It On Down
Morning Glory
Cigarettes & Alcohol
The Masterplan
Songbird
The Importance of Being Idle
Live Forever
Acquiesce
Wonderwall
Champagne Supernova
Don't Look Back In Anger
The Meaning of Soul
Rock 'n' Roll Star
My Generation
Foo Fighters were pretty good. 'In Your Honor' was easily the song of the day, it was intense. Dave Grohl really screams his guts out during it. Approximate setlist:
In Your Honor
All My Life
My Hero
Best of You
Generator
The One
Stacked Actors
Break Out
Learn to Fly
Everlong
Monkey Wrench
That song that the drummer sings
This Is A Call
Mailbag
Man, that was a great column! I absolutely adored the anti-punk list. It pisses me off cruising on places such as myspace and having all these emos with the same interests, music, films etc. add me on. Sadly they are all unoriginal. And the hate for Greenday..Beautiful.
And I never knew you were from Australia (Only ever read two fo your columns >_>). Going to BDO in Perth, I see... Pre the second announcement for BDO, I was very excited for it cause I thought the headliner is going to be a great band, but then I saw Mudvayne or something. I'm still going for Mars Volta and Franz Fedinand though.
Well this seemed useless. Later d00d.

Thanks. Any hater of punk is a friend of mind.
Speaking of mail:
Tollah rates fixxer315's songs
You may remember the T-Meister promising one of his readers that he would review some suggested songs last week. I forgot to put the guy's name, but he's called fixxer315. I think that's his real name but I can't be 100% sure. Unfortunately a couple of the songs didn't download, but I'll review the ones that did.
Billy Joel - Piano Man
OMG, this song is awesome. I can't believe I haven't listened to this guy before. I must download some of the 80s synth stuff that fixxer mentioned!! =D 8.5/10
Savatage - Believe
Pretty boring till about 1:30 when the guitars hit, then the song starts to own. Maybe I'll like the start more with further listening. 8/10
Savatage - Gutter Ballet
Fuck yeah. 9/10
