Rock News For All You Newbs

Evanescence will their first album in four years later this year. It was inevitable that we are tortured with more Amy Lee. However, as she alleges it, it won't be the same Evanescence. Amy Lee is the only person left from the original group, as she has eaten the souls of the old members. Lee said the following about the new album:

"It's not an organic record. Our idea is to take synthetic and atmospheric sounds and find a way to blur the line between organic and synthetic… There is something really cool happening in music right now. There are bands that sound like they're from another time — it's like '80s throwback music with analogue synthesizers and Moogs. I love it. I've been listening to a lot of La Roux."

Children of Bodom is currently writing new material for their next album with band bassist Henkka Seppala offering the following on the bands progress thus far:

"It is great to have a new rehearsal space. We can rehearse whenever and as long as we want. And this is a new thing for us as a band. So making new songs is now really different than before.

It's been really exciting, once again, to gather at the rehearsal space and start jamming the new ideas Alexi has in mind for. I'm really excited now, and looking forward everyday to get there again to see what's new this time.

Soon we will jam some old songs too, since we have these 3 shows in Finland next month. It s been quite a long time since last live show, so that is a fresh thing to do also, the small Fenno-tour. And we've never played in Sotkamo area!!!

We will enter the studio in the middle of next summer. And then we will take our time to track the stuff, then mix it and master it. Then the labels need their time to prepare the release… so unfortunately the release won't be this year, that's for sure. We will let you know as soon as we know the date.

When the tracking is done, the rest of the summertime we will spend at some summer festivals in Europe. Check out our live section for those.

And, we will put some footage, diary thingies, from the studio, that's for sure!"

Meat Loaf signed a new deal with Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records recently. Because of this, the world will see him release Hang Cool Teddy Bear, on May 11.

Now this is where I think things get interesting: it features guest appearances from Steve Vai, actor Hugh Laurie (House), Queen guitarist Brian May, American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, The Darkness' Justin Hawkins and Jack Black.

It will be produced by Rob Cavallo.

Meat Loaf says:

"I wanted it big, I wanted it dramatic, I wanted a rock record. Yes, it sounds like a Meat Loaf record. But it sounds different too: it sounds new, it sounds fresh. It speaks to you in a different way."

Hang Cool Teddy Bear is a concept album that was inspired by a short story written by friend Kilian Kerwin.

"It's the story of a soldier. He's been in battle and he's lying face down on the ground. He can't move, but he turns his head and starts to see blood run across the ground, and so he thinks he's going to die. They always say you see your life flash backward when you're about to die. But his life flashes forward - into what possibly could happen. He sees what his life could be: the good and the bad. The songs are the different scenarios he finds himself in. It's not always the same time or the same place, but it's always the same woman. But I don't want to give too much away. I want people to work it out for themselves."
