Lots of National news, Hold Steady news, new She And Him record, a Dan Deacon remix EP, Japandroids reissues and more.
The bit at the start
Hey.
One of these weeks I'm going to write a proper intro for one of these bad boys.
Not this week though.
Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.
Frightened Rabbit – The Winter Of Mixed Drinks
Fine new record from anthemic Scottish miserablists.
You news, you lose
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
It's been an exciting week for slavering National fanboys. First they debuted "Terrible Love" the opening track from their new album on Jimmy Fallon, in fact before we continue you should probably watch the tune if you haven't already, it's pretty great …
Shortly after that they released the artwork for the album (which is called High Violet by the way.)
A bit of a departure from the dark tones of the Alligator and Boxer.
Finally on Monday the tracklisting for the album (which is out on 4AD on May 10/11 depending on where you live in the world) was released:
01 Terrible Love
02 Sorrow
03 Anyone's Ghost
04 Little Faith
05 Afraid of Everyone
06 Bloodbuzz Ohio
07 Lemonworld
08 Runaway
09 Conversation 16
10 England
11 Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks
Oh hey, another band I really like have an album coming out.
May is going to be a busy one, not only am I going to the Primavera Sound music festival but in Dublin I'll also be seeing shows by Dinosaur Jr./Built To Spill, Wolf Parade, Pavement and The Antlers amongst others. On top of that there's loads of exciting sounding albums set to be released that month. Amongst those is Heaven Is Whenever by The Hold Steady.
Described by the band as "less anthemic and more complex" than their earlier records it will be out on May 3rd in Europe on Rough Trade and a day later on Vagrant in the US the artwork for it was released this week.
I bet I know what their third album will be called.
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward's second album from their She And Him project is going to be released on March 23rd (or April 5th in the UK) however you can stream the album in full on the NPR website here.
While I'm at it here's the album artwork …
Dan Deacon remix EP.
On April 19th the Amazing Sounds label will release the very limited (500 copies) Woof Woof EP which will feature 4 remixes of songs from Dan Deacon's Bromst album.
You can listen to the Hudson Mohawke Remix of Woof Woof on the label's MySpace.
Oh yeah, artwork:
Japandroids reissues.
2007's All Lies and the following year's Lullaby Death Jams were the first two EP's released by noisy Toronto two piece Japandroids prior to last year's full length debut Post-Nothing.
On May 11th Polyvinyl will reissue those two EP's on 180 gram vinyl and download as No Singles, the tracklisting is as follows:
01 Darkness on the Edge of Gastown
02 No Allegiance to the Queen
03 Sexual Aerosol
04 Lovers/Strangers
05 Lucifer's Symphony
06 Couture Suicide
07 Avant Sleepwalk
08 Coma Complacency
09 To Hell With Good Intentions
10 Press Corps
Next month also see the beginning of Japandroids' 7" singles series with the first one being sent out on April 13th.
Inevitable artwork picture comes next:

The bit at the end
Had a great weekend's gig going last week. Panda Bear was very divisive with seemingly as many people hating it as the number who loved it, I was in the second grouping. The following night Retribution Gospel Choir played a fantastic set, I really wish I could play guitar like Alan Sparhawk.
All that pales in comparison to what I have in store for this week. 2 nights with Owen Pallett. It's gonna be great.
You can follow me on twitter, I'm endlessly fascinating.
