Dancing About Architecture Indie Music News 7.13.10
Posted by Ian Wright on 07.13.2010

The bit at the start

Hey there. I wasn't around last week as I was in Paris seeing Arcade Fire. I have to say, and I love the shit out that band, I thought they were only okay, it was a little plodding in the middle, too large a block of new stuff that the audience was unfamiliar with. When they played the Funeral stuff though, holy shit.

I saw them again on Friday in a festival near home, they were much better. However Jay Z, who was on before them (go figure) was absolutely phenomenal, probably the best hip-hop performance I've ever seen. Dude is a rock star.

Oh, and while I was away it appears that Guided By Voices sort of got back together.

Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.

Sparklehorse – It's a wonderful life

Been listening to this loads late. Really miss Mark.

You news, you lose

Free new Owen Pallett EP

If you head over the to Domino Records website you'll be able to download a digital version of Owen Pallett's brand new 12" for free. The single features Heartland standout "Lewis Takes Off His Shirt" in it's album version as well as remixes of the track by Dan Deacon, Max Tundra, Simon Bookish, Benoit Pioulard, and CFCF. It's available for the next week.

New Deerhunter record, yay.

Halcyon Digest is the forthcoming 4th album from Deerhunter. It'll be out on 4AD on September 28th. As a nod to the old, pre-internet days by encouraging fans to go to this website and download the following poster …

and then print it out, photocopy it and then stick it up wherever you want to promote the release. After that if you take a picture of it and mail that picture to flyers@halcyondigest.com you'll get an e-mail linking to the record's first single as well as to a non album track in the next few weeks.

I hate gear thieves.

Wonderful Georgia by way of Brooklyn alt country outfit Phosphorescent suffered the misfortune of having their van, along with $40,000 of musical equipment in it, stolen in Greenpoint last Thursday night. The band have set up a PayPal account where people can donate funds to help the band purchase new gear.
