Best Coast – Crazy For You

The best summer record in years. Super fun.

You news, you lose

GBV, GBV, GBV.

Okay, remember when I got all excited about the news that Godspeed!... are getting back together a couple of months ago, remember the excitement I've been feeling for the last 8 months or so about Pavement getting back together? Well for me this is bigger than the first one but not quite as big as the second one.

In addition to the already announced appearance at the Matador anniversary party in Las Vegas in October more dates were announced last week for the reunited "classic" lineup Guided By Voices American Tour.

Those are:

09-30 Austin, TX - East Side Drive *
10-03 Las Vegas, NV - Matador 21
10-04 Los Angeles, CA - Wiltern *
10-05 San Francisco, CA - Warfield *
10-07 Portland, OR - Crystal Ballroom *
10-09 Seattle, WA - Showbox SoDo *
10-12 Minneapolis, MN - First Avenue *
10-13 Chicago, IL - The Vic *
10-15 Newport, KY - Southgate House
10-16 Columbus, OH - Outlands Live
10-21 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club
10-22 Carrboro, NC - Cat's Cradle
10-23 Atlanta, GA - Buckhead Theater
11-05 Boston, MA - Paradise ^
11-06 Philadelphia, PA - Trocadero ^
11-07 New York, NY - Terminal 5 ^

* with Times New Viking
^ with Blitzen Trapper

The lineup for this tour (which also overlaps nicely with my dream GBV lineup of Robert Pollard, Tobin Sprout, and some other dudes) will be Pollard, Sprout, Mitch Michaels, Kevin Fennell and Greg Demos.

In an interview with Spinner Pollard said that the band would be playing material from when they were all playing together the first time around, that being 1993-1995. Fortunately that period covers peak-period GBV, including "the albums Propeller, Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes, and Under the Bushes Under the Stars."

No European dates have yet been announced (boo for me) but I'd imagine that they're fairly likely to happen.

Kinda bullshit Arcade Fire news: Redux. Also nice news.

It was announced a couple of weeks ago that the upcoming Arcade Fire album The Suburbs would come with 8 different covers. I was unimpressed at the time because it seemed like a stunt to screw the complest fanboy but after seeing the covers …

… they're all so similar that any chump that forks out to pay for all of them deserves everything that they get.

In other news that makes Arcade Fire sound like a great bunch of people the band were playing Quebec City last week and announced that they would match any and all donations to the newly formed charity organisation Kanpe up to $1m CDN. Kanpe was set up to aid in rebuilding Haiti after the earthquake earlier in the year. The band have long had an interest in the nation as Regine Chassagne's family left the country under the prior to her birth and since 2007 Arcade Fire have imposed a $1/£1/ˆ1 surcharge to tickets for their concerts with the money going to Partners In Health.

If you want to help take some of the band's money you can donate here.

New Deerhunter album news.

As announced last week the new Deerhunter album Halcyon Digest is out on 4AD on September 28th. The tracklisting was announced in the last few days:

01 Earthquake
02 Don't Cry
03 Revival
04 Sailing
05 Memory Boy
06 Desire Lines
07 Basement Scene
08 Helicopter
09 Fountain Stairs
10 Coronado
11 He Would Have Laughed

Uh, there's not actually much to be said aside from that.

Oh good.

It was reported last week that Phosphorescent has their tour van, along with $40,000 worth of equipment stolen in Brooklyn. Since then the band announced that the police have recovered the van and that "all of our gear is in there and appears to be un-damaged."

So that's nice. All donations from fans made to the paypal appeal fund have also been returned.

Kerching!

Hey, you know the cover of the latest Vampire Weekend album. The pretty blonde with the polo shirt. The one that basically sums up in a single picture all that is really douchy about the band?

Well it turns out that the signature on the release clearing the photo for use was forged. And now the lady in the picture, her name is Kirsten Kennis, is suing the band and the photographer for $2 million.

Ouch.

The YouTube video of the week

I've been listening to the record that this is from a lot in the last week.
