Talking about canceled bad taste sit-coms, Built To Spill remixes, new music from Jens Lekman, a whole bunch of Robert Pollard releases on the way, Avey Teres solo album, and more.
The bit at the start
Hi all, just give me a second why I skim through my excuse Rolodex to see why this week's intro section is so short
It's a public holiday here.
Actually it is and I slept in till 1PM because I stayed up till 5AM drinking wine and watching things that have future wife* Lizzy Caplan in it. If you haven't seen "Party Down" before it's worth catching, they only made 20 episodes before it got cancelled but they're all pretty funny though at times the brow is hanging somewhere below the knees. Really good cast too; Martin Star, Adam Scott, Caplan and until Glee took off and she had to bail at the end of season 1 Jane Lynch, who is almost always very good.
Anyway I want to play some guitar at some point this afternoon so lets get started.
* In the event of Clemence Posey's unavailability.

Built To Spill remixed by Built To Spill.
Well actually remix isn't quite right, it's more that they've completely remade some of the songs in their catalogue with drum machines and 80's synth sounds, only the melodies and Doug Martsch's plaintive vocals. The project was undertaken by Martsch and bandmate Brett Nelson under the name The Electric Anthology Project and the 7 song EP will be available at upcoming BTS gigs or from CDBaby. Each of the songs is retitled with an anagram of the tune's original name and to be honest the results are a little mixed with the stand out track of the seven being this re-imagining of Keep It Like A Secret's "Else," or "Eels" if you prefer.
01 "I Dim Our Angst In Agony" ("Goin' Against Your Mind")
02 "Age I Felt" ("Get A Life")
03 "At The Where" ("The Weather")
04 "Eels" ("Else")
05 "What If Your Dull" ("I Would Hurt A Fly")
06 "A Gloss Siren" ("Israel's Song")
07 "Far Path Tall Sign" ("Things Fall Apart")
New Jens Lekman music.
After a couple of years of a break Jens Lekman is back on the road. He actually played Dublin last night but I skipped it as the last time I saw him live he pissed me off something rotten due to repeated the exact same shtick that he had the previous time that I'd seen him but tweets from people that were there seem to indicate that he was pretty great. He's also got a new song out on the interwebs called "The End Of The World Is Bigger Than Love" and you can download it below in exchange for your e-mail address as is now fashionable.
You can also read the "making of" story on the Secretly Canadian website.
Pollard never stops.
So there's the little matter of the Guided By Voices reunion tour to take care of but that doesn't mean that Robert Pollard doesn't have a whole bunch of new releases in the pipeline.
Because he does.
5 of them.
Indie's most productive man will be practically flinging out records in the next 10 months with albums from Boston Spaceships bookending what promises to be a typically fertile period in Pollard's career. The first of the Spaceships records is out on September 7th and is called Our Clubhouse. (Listen to "Come on baby Grace" from it here.)
After that he's on the road with GBV so there's a gap of a few months before his latest solo offering, the 18 track Space City Kicks kicks 2011 off in January. The following month sees the new release from Lifeguards, his project with ex-GBV guitarist Doug Gillard entitled Waving At The Astronauts. In March he'll release a yet to be titled album with Big Dipper's Gary Waleik under the monikor Mars Classroom.
Finally in May the second Boston Spaceships album Let It Beard and rather excitingly will feature guitar guest spots from J. Mascis, Wire's Colin Newman, the Dirtbombs' Mick Collins, King Missile's Dave Rick, and the Dream Syndicate's Steve Wynn.
Avey Tere solo album.
There's been a whole lot of chatter this year about the upcoming solo record from Noah Lennox (a.k.a. Panda Bear of Animal Collective) so the announcement that his bandmate Dave Portner would be releasing his debut solo record this year came as something of a bolt from the blue.
Down There is out on Animal Collective's Paw Tracks label on Ovetober 26th and the 9 song affair was recorded by Josh Dibb, otherwise known as AnCo's Deakin.
