Dancing About Architecture Indie Music News 08.10.10

The bit at the start

la la la la la la la la

dum diddity dum.

Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.

The Wrens – The Meadowlands

It's been > year since I plugged my favourite album.

You news, you lose

Losing a Battle, continuing the war.

Tyondai Broxton has left Battles.

According to a statement issued by the band on the Warp Records website last week the split was an amicable one caused by Braxton's desire to pursue his own solo work and he felt that he couldn't do that and commit to work and touring for the band's follow up to 2007's Mirrored.

John Stanier's ludicrously high above the kit cymbal could not be reached for comment.

An incomplete Spaceman 3 reunion.

Spaceman 3 played together for the first time since 1991 a few weeks ago at a benefit but without 1 key member. As he has steadfastly insisted over the years that he has no interest in getting the band back together Spiritualized's Jason Pierce was not present at the gig so of the original band only Peter "Sonic Boom" Kember, Will Caruthers, Jonny Mattock and Mark Refoy were present. They band were however bolstered by My Bloody Valentine guitarist Kevin Shields helping out as did Jason Holt of Spectrum and Pat Fish of the Jazz Butchers.

Slicing Up Eyeballs were there and shot footage of a few of the songs played.

New music from Perfume Genius.

If you haven't heard Perfume Genius' debut album Learning then you're still in for something of a harrowing treat. I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for some of the saddest sounding shit imaginable. Get on it.

However if you're already familiar with that then you might be interested in the new song that he posted up on his YouTube channel on Monday. It's called "Your Drum" and it goes a little something like this.

More new music. This time from Antony.

Do the required usual e-mail addy swap below and get a new song from Antony and the Johnsons called "Thank You For Your Love."

The song is from two forthcoming Antony releases, the first being an EP of the same name which is out on August 24th in North America and the 30th in Europe. Antony's new album Swanlights is out on October 11/12.

The YouTube video of the week

This is the earliest known live footage of Arcade Fire. It was shot just after their debut EP came out.

ARCADE FIRE Live 2003 from Bennett on Vimeo.

While on the subject here's the band covering a Jay Reatard song in Philly last week …

If you can you should go to these gigs.
