Thoughts on the new Walkmen record, new music from No Age, Owen Pallett, an Elliott Smith Best off to be released, a Mount Eerie rarities comp on the way and more.
The bit at the start
Before we get started this week a quick word on the new Walkmen album. I must admit that when I first heard Lisbon I was a little underwhelmed by the whole thing. It's probably the most subdued record that I've heard from them and it took a while to get into. However over the past week I've spent a lot of time listening to it and I'm really beginning to warm to it. There's nothing particularly immediate about it but just because there's nothing like "The Rat" on it but that only goes to emphasize the fact that The Walkmen are a band that are aging beautifully and are producing the most considered work of their careers.
Beg, borrow, buy, steal or download this album.
Taking a break this week.
You news, you lose
New music from No Age.
The new first music from LA dream-noise-punk duo No Age's forthcoming album Everything in between made it's way online last week. The album itself is out on September 28th but lead single "Glitter" will be out on 12" and 7" on the 24th of this month.
The 12" is backed by a couple of tunes called "In Rebound" and "Vision II" while the 7" has "Inflorescence" on the b-side.
You can download "Glitter" here and stream "Inflorescence" below:
New Owen Pallett EP.
Owen Pallett will release a new EP next month. A Swedish love story will be out on Domino on the 28th on 10" and download.

Elliott Smith best of on the way.
It's surprising considering the reverence that he's held with it's a bit surprising that it's taken until 2010 for a best of compilation of material from the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith to be released. However come November that glaring omission will be corrected with the release on CD and 12" of Introduction on Domino and Kill Rock Stars.
